PosiChek and Vista!

Dec 22, 2006 17:12

We got our preview copy of Windows Vista last week and have been testing our software.  The other guys had to do some fixes in their application, because the USB takes longer to establish the connection now.  Today they tested my PosiChek software, and it worked right out of the box!!  Woohoo!  I thought I was going to be having to fix it.  The only thing that doesn't work is, the help file engine for .hlp files is not on Vista, so the help files don't work.  This is a real bummer, because I have worked extremely hard on the help files.  You are not allowed to distribute the engine, but can download it.  However, we have been unable to find a download site.  As soon as we do, we will put a link on our download page, and then we will be all set.

What I was really worried about was the dlportio service that the PosiChek depends on for communication in NT OS versions.  This is shareware written by an Australian kid (he was a kid when he wrote it) named John Pappas.  Since it still works, I would say he did an excellent job!

Today was our annual office Christmas party.  We were served a nice lunch at 12:30.  Before lunch they handed out the service awards, and also some gag awards.  They had a contest for naming a new product last summer.  None of the employees won the contest, but some of the names were so funny that they gave out gag gifts for them today.  For example, "UGD-437" -- UGD stands for "U gonna die!"  Another product description went "You only have 2 nostrils.  Our product has 5.  Who you gonna trust?"  We all had a big laugh.  After lunch everyone was given a $50 gift card, so between my service award and the gift card I really cleaned up.  We will probably hit the New Year's Day sales.

Everyone pretty much left after lunch, but I stayed around and worked for another hour, so I was one of the last 3 employess that left.
