So umm.. it's been a month. That was not supposed to happen. Basically, life has been going, in the way that it does, sometimes stellar, sometimes not so much. It has been full of joy, of sadness, of work, of laughter, of friends, of music... basically of all things that make up life. I am uncertain of whether or not the period of my life in which I blog is drawing to a close. I seem to prefer my paper-journal these days. I also am finding that livejournal is just a bit too "ieeeee I have teenage angst" so maybe I shall soon be switching to blogger or something more mature (bahahaha), I am uncertain. This month, like many other months and all years has been one of growth, of new adventures and discoveries. Basically it comes down to this:
1)Regardless of how good you are at cooking, it is near impossible to duplicate your mother's amazing sugar cookies. Especially if you make them on a 30 degree day and forget to chill the batter.
2)"The future is something which everyone reaches at the rate of sixty minutes an hour, whatever he does, whoever he is."-C.S Lewis Basically, I need to stop worrying about it.
3)A lack of confidence in playing does not mean a lack of arrogance. I cannot describe how devestated, ripped off and angry I felt when I was once again placed in wind ensemble regardless of the reasoning behind it (we're recoding/touring) and the fact that all the upper year/masters performance majors wound up in that ensemble. My over-reaction was not justified, it is fine, I am still being challenged and I am playing rep from an era I enjoy rather than romantic/classical music.
4)I love taking english classes! I wish I had done more of them and less german.
5)Pinery Provincial Park is one of the most beautiful places ever.
6)Contemporary music is sometimes about doing the unexpected, but with such seriousness and strength in execution that it seems like what should be happening.
7)I am becoming more and more excited about becoming a musicologist/music librarian. Performance is such an unnatural thing for me, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.
8) Being involved in christian leadership stuff is sometimes tough, tiring and draining. But it is also among the most rewarding things I have ever done.
9)Apparently you CAN apply to the Ontario Graduate Scholarship if you file income tax in another province. Too bad I only figured that out last week, and transcripts from Alberta take 5 days to process plus 4 days in the mail.
10)Mandolin strings actually cost less than guitar strings
11) A solid accompanist is invaluable.
12)Opera history is actually interesting, and I am not a singer! It is also unfortunately entertaining due to some classmates....
13) I am secretly a raging femenist... I love both Tori Amos and Ani DiFranco
That's it for now, probably more to come... or possibly an address to a more mature blog....
PS) There are ladybugs currently roasting on my light fixture.. it is grossing me out!
