Title: Closure

Pairing/Focus: Jinki/Jonghyun
A/N: Just a drabble where Jonghyun's pretty determined. Jongyu is obviously my second otp now. /o\
Jinki's book reading is interrupted by a somewhat sing-song voice coaxing him out of his trance.
"Hey! Lee Jinki, right?" the voice says once Jinki looks up, squinting when the first thing his eyes land on is a mop of messy blonde hair. His eyes finally fall to the cocky grin the boy hovering over him has on his face.
"Um, yes?" Jinki emits a squeak when the blonde boy makes room for himself beside Jinki on the park bench. "Um, how do you-- why--"
"I'm Kim Jonghyun." the boy introduces himself, radiating self-confidence.
The name registers vaguely in Jinki's mind. When he sees Jonghyun's eyes crinkle in delight upon seeing his contemplative expression, Jinki's sure they've already met somewhere.
"I heard you're single now."
This causes Jinki to sputter and drop the book in his hands. Jonghyun snorts and picks it up, plopping it down the other boy's lap.
"What-- how did you... who?" Jinki says in broken stutters, his mind working overtime as he desperately searches his mind.
Then like the proverbial light bulb blinking in his head, Jinki jumps up to his feet and points an accusatory finger at Jonghyun.
"You!" he says, eyes wide with recognition. "You're-- you're that guy Kibum introduced me to at that party-- before we... before he..."
Jinki suddenly feels boneless as he settles back on the park bench beside Jonghyun, who had been watching him with an amused smile.
"Er, yeah." Jonghyun says, awkwardly patting Jinki on the back. "But, like I said, you're single, right?"
Jinki, who had buried his face in his hands, looks up miserably.
"Yes, alright." he says, eyes downcast. "Kibum broke up with me a few weeks after the party."
And instead of putting on a sympathetic smile and cooing Jinki with comfort like what most of his friends had done when they had learned about the break-up, Jonghyun pumps his fist up in the air.
"YES." his grin is painfully wide.
"What," Jinki deadpans. "What do you mean, 'YES'?"
"Er, I mean. Go out with me." Jonghyun says in a tragically straightforward manner. Jinki resists the urge to punch him in the face, because really, he doesn't deserve this shit. Not now, anyway.
"What? That's even worse! I-- you--" Jinki sighs, rubbing his temple in a desperate attempt to quell a growing headache. "Look, if Kibum sent you to make me feel even more miserable, then please tell him it's working."
"What? No!" Jonghyun pulls a disgusted face. "No way am I like that. He's my friend, but he's still a bitch."
"Huh." Jinki deadpans once more. "Well, um. Whatever, I guess."
He motions to stand up, his book safe in his arms, but Jonghyun tugs the sleeve of his shirt, causing him to stumble backwards a bit.
"You still haven't said yes or no." Jonghyun explains when Jinki frowns at him. "Go out with me, please?"
"Jonghyun." Jinki says, the name a bit foreign around his tongue. "I don't just date my ex-boyfriend's friends."
"Well, that's lame." Jonghyun says, obviously stung. "I've had my eyes on you since that night we met at the party. When I learned in a bitchfest from Kibum that you two had broken up, I knew destiny had other plans for us."
Jinki lets the words sink in, thinking how stupid this all was. But when he hears Jonghyun's last statement, Jinki couldn't help but laugh.
"You sound lame." he says after he wipes the tears from his eyes due to his bouts of laughter.
Jonghyun pouts.
"I'm serious." he says, eyes set with determination. "Go out with me, Lee Jinki. I'll nurse your broken heart and make you fall in love with me."
"Promises." Jinki makes a face, but the words sink into his skin. He watches as Jonghyun holds his breath, obviously waiting for the impending success (or failure). "I-- I guess we could try. I mean, it's been almost a month now anyway."
What, the rational part of his brain says.
It's too early, Jinki knows that, but--
Whatever, another part of his brain says (the one that rarely butts in, ever). Besides, Jinki really did need someone to get his mind off Kibum.
And with Jonghyun willingly volunteering, Jinki thinks, why not?
"YES." Jonghyun pumps his fist back up in the air, complete with a whoop as he takes Jinki by the arm. "Come on! We can talk about our future together over some coffee and snacks. I know this coffee shop just a few blocks from here."
"W-what? But that's--"
--where Kibum works, Jinki wants to say, but he sees the knowing glint in Jonghyun's eyes.
"Closure is very important." he simply says as he links their hands together, to which Jinki reluctantly gives into.
"Um, okay." Jinki says flatly, but he thinks that seeing Kibum's scandalized face later on would totally make his day.
