Some people live life to the fullest. Some just let life pass them by. I've decided that I need to be somewhere in between. Some days I'll just wave by some exciting opportunities, but yesterday was not one of them. When my friend asked if I wanted to go sailing with him and a few of our other friends, I jumped at the opportunity. I've never been sailing before but I can say this, after yesterday, I am ready to go again, and again, and again...
We started out the day with a 15-20min walk to the subway (this is now the 3rd time in my life that I've taken the subway. I'm more of a city driver or if needed, I take taxis everywhere). Anyway, we then took 2 subways into Brooklyn where the boat was docked. Then it was another 15min walk to the boating club. Thank god for comfortable shoes and the distraction of conversation of good friend to battle the strength of the sun beating down on us.
There were 8 of us in total on the 41 foot sail boat. The boat itself was amazingly beautiful. I could easily live on that boat and give up my NYC apt. The day was beautiful, the sun was shining, the humidity was at a low and the wind - well it was there, but wasn't so overpowering. It was a nice balance of sun and water. We enjoyed some tunes, swam in the bay and merely enjoyed the company of good friends. I, of course, was soaking up as much of the sun as possible (i did use skin protection but still walked away with a bit more color than i expected). Living the hectic life that I do, I was even more appreciative of the care-free day and the fact that I was able to enjoy life and not worry about work, family or any of my other responsibilities. There is just something so peacful and serene about gliding across the water with the sound of the waves rushing off to the sides and the sound of the wind hitting the sail.
We took plenty of pics (i'll upload at a later time). Not only did we have an enjoyable day but then we walked around Brooklyn and enjoyed dinner outside at a Tuirkish restuarant. That alone was a new experience, seeing as I am one of the most picky eaters you'll ever meet. But you can't go wrong with a basic chicken shish kebab, which was actually really tasty.
Now, it's back to reality...
