Final MJD ficlets - Life On Mars, Prison Break

So , More Joy Day is almost over here in the UK. It's been awesome!

A final couple of little ficlets to finish:

For ozfroggirl: Life On Mars, Gene/Sam,

It happens the first time Sam nearly gets himself killed. Once Ray's cuffed the bad guys and Gene's satisfied himself that Sam is alive and more or less in one piece, he hugs him. It's over in seconds and quickly followed up by a punch to the gut and a stream of typically inventive abuse, but Sam's pretty sure he didn't hallucinate it. He knows his perceptions aren't always to be trusted, but the sheer visceral impact of that hug and his reaction to it -- makes him believe it had to have been real.

And if he goes out looking to put himself in harm's way again, so he can test the theory? Well, he never said he wasn't a little crazy to start with, did he?

And a bonus for sol_se: Prison Break, Gretchen,

Gretchen knows that first impressions count, so the first bitch to get in her face goes away with a broken jaw, a fractured arm and a ruptured spleen for her trouble. Nothing says 'don't fuck with me' as efficiently as a little hardcore violence. Luckily for this prison's general population, they seem like pretty fast learners.

Her first cellmate is a huge, heavyset blonde who boasts that she's in for murdering her old man. Gretchen puts her down without breaking a nail, and after that there's a lot of chatter and eyeballing and that night she ends up with a slim, curly-haired brunette instead. Gretchen really can't be bothered with putting on a show again, so she just goes straight for the throat.

And finds herself on her ass, instead. She blinks, gets up and goes again, but the brunette has got goddamn reinforced steel for bones, or something. Gretchen finds herself pinned against the wall, held with one hand while the girl gives her a blatant once over. Gretchen raises her chin and returns it, which seems to be the right response. It earns her release, and a slow smile.

'Hey,' the brunette finally says. 'You know, I think we're gonna get along fine.' She holds out her hand. 'I'm Faith.'

Good night, Y'all!
