"So," said Kaile, dropping onto Eric’s couch and looking at him as he made his way around his kitchen. "How the hell did you get a place like this on a detectives salary?"
"Daddy," said Eric, shooting her a grin and pulling out a couple of beers from the fridge.
"Seriously?" asked Kaile. "Never picture you for a Daddy’s girl."
"Funny," said Eric, tossing her a beer and sitting down next to her. "He looks out for me though. And Kaelyn, she pays half of half the rent, I pay the other half of the half-"
"Wait," interrupted Kaile, sitting up and looking at him. "You and Tanner live together?"
"We’ve been friends since the academy," said Eric, closing his eyes tightly. "Please tell me you don’t think we’re into each other."
"Okay," said Kaile uncomfortably. "I wont tell you then."
"We’re not," said Eric firmly. "I haven’t been into her since the academy. And even then...."
"Even then what?" asked Kaile.
"We didn’t click."
"Oh," said Kaile, sitting back against the couch a bit less uncomfortable then before. "So your dad. What does he do?"
"Works with Messer’s dad."
"What’s that mean?"
"If I told you I’d have to kill you," said Eric softly. Kaile laughed at him and shook her head.
"You know that’s what Danny’s says?"
"That’s because we were taught to say that," Kaile’s eyebrows raised at the dissapointed look on Eric’s face and she shifted in her seat.
"Really?"
"No. It’s just fun to freak people out."
