I love our new house, but as with houses, things break. The second thing to crap out in our house was the dishwasher. (The first thing was the sump in the front yard. [don't ask, it's a rural NE Ohio thing.]) I wasn't horribly saddened by this, even though it meant that I had to wash dishes until we got the replacement. It was a mid-level Maytag, which in terms of most appliances is Meh. I wasn't crazy about it, because while it worked OK, the racks were a little beat up and were scratching our new dishes. Also, our kitchen has a freaky medley of different colored appliances; a white fridge (which we swapped out when we moved in - a friend offered us their newer white fridge in exchange for our almond 80's MONTGOMERY WARD side-by-side fridge), an almond-and-black range, a black over-the-range microwave, and the black dishwasher. The tile floor in the kitchen is white-ish, the countertop is a taupey-brown, and the cabinets are pecan. I thought the black appliances didn't look great with what was there, so we discussed replacing the appliances with white as they went or we upgraded.
Well, we did some shopping around (at Blowz, of course! I <3 my discount!) and I found a KitchenAid that was reasonable. It's white, has a stainless steel interior, and purty blue lights on the control panel. Love, love, love. It was installed on Monday and I used it two hours later. While it's not as silent as some of our friend's DW's, it's pretty quiet and makes a pleasant soft "wooshing" sound.
Of course, the installation made the floor kinda dirty, so I mopped the floor. Then I felt bad that the rest of the kitchen looked cluttered and trashed, so while Paul played Saints Row 2 I went on a mad cleaning/reorganizing streak and made the kitchen look pretty. Yay!
Now for the rest of the place...
