Check This Out (6/?)

Junhyung smirked to himself as he walked up the hill to the library. Small patters of rain fell fast around him, and because he deemed umbrellas “sissy accessories,” his hair plastered wetly to his face and freezing droplets slid down the back collar of his jacket.

Hyunseung is going to harass me for this, the wet rapper thought amusedly to himself. After their first few dates, Junhyung secured himself a spot in the snarky librarian’s heart and even though Hyunseung still verbally jabbed at him, Junhyung realized most of it was banter…well, okay some of it was still incredulity but he would take what he could.

Junhyung opened the door to the library, warm air blasting his face and sending a shiver down his back. He recalled once being scared to come in the building. Now it was like home-Hyunseung was in here all the time. He slopped toward the central counter, knowing he was leaving a small wet trail behind him. Sometimes he couldn’t help but bait his boyfriend.

“Junhyung!”

Ah, there it was.

Hyunseung’s voice came from the stairs and Junhyung grinned up at the brunette who was now hurrying down towards him. “You’re getting water all over my carpet! And you look like a wet mutt. God, where is your umbrella, stupid?” Junhyung grinned at Hyunseung’s ability to insult him and be concerned simultaneously. As Hyunseung approached, Junhyung took several quick steps to erase the distance between them and wrapped his wet arms around the librarian’s small shoulders. Hyunseung let out a yelp of indignation and pushed half-heartedly at Junhyung’s shoulders, not really fighting to get free.

Junhyung buried his cold face into Hyunseung shoulder, lips pressing against his warm neck and cheek resting on his soft black sweater. “I missed you,” he breathed into his skin.

Hyunseung stopped pushing and instead placed a hand on top of Junhyung’s sopping hair. “If you used an umbrella,” he said softly, “I could have run my fingers through your hair. You aim to irritate me, don’t you Yong Junhyung?”

Junhyung grinned into his neck, “anything to keep you interested, princess.”

Hyunseung squawked and wiggled out of Junhyung’s grip. “Ugh, Jun, now my sweater is all wet,” he scowled, plucking disgustedly at the damp fabric.

“I like you all wet,” Junhyung said, waggling his eyebrows.

“I think your brain is all wet,” Hyunseung shot back, pulling his sweater off to reveal a tight green tees-hirt underneath. “If I get sick, it’s all your fault.”

“I’ll nurse you back to health to make it up to you,” Junhyung said, clasping their hands together as they walked to the central desk.

“Why are you here anyway?” Hyunseung asked, moving behind the counter as Junhyung remained on the outside (Hyunseung never let him back there. “It’s for employees only, Jun.”)

“I can’t just want to see your ridiculously sexy face?”

Hyunseung stared blankly at him.

“Okay,” Junhyung admitted, “I’ve got time to kill between finals.”

“Oooh,” Hyunseung said suddenly, “so that’s why so many people are in the library.”

Junhyung chuckled at his boyfriend’s absentmindedness. “You didn’t realize it was finals week?”

“Why would I,” Hyunseung said somewhat bitterly, “I don’t have finals to take.”

There was an awkward silence and Junhyung realize he picked a bad subject to talk about. “Well,” he said after a minute, “we’ve also been dating for two months now.”

“A month and a half,” Hyunseung said, picking at his nails.

“Oh, you’re keeping track?” Junhyung would never admit that Hyunseung made his heart pick up with the most simple of actions.

“Well you’re the one that all but leapt through the library screaming my praises on our one month,” Hyunseung retorted, “I’m still healing from the event.”

“Sure,” Junhyung teased, smiling softly at the small flush that he spied against Hyunseung pale skin.

Unfortunately, the clock above the desk signaled the impending start of another final. “Seung,” he said, reaching across the desk and brushing soft brunette hair behind his ear.

Hyunseung hummed in response, leaning into the touch. Junhyung loved how cat-like his boyfriend was. He especially loved calling the sharp librarian his boyfriend. Hell, it’s not like just anyone could do it.

“I have a final.”

Hyunseung opened his wide eyes. “Okay, good luck.”

“Can I have a good luck kiss?”

Hyunseung sighed exasperatedly but Junhyung knew he was just pretending. He leaned across the desk and Hyunseung softly pressed their lips together. Junhyung flicked his tongue against the other’s lips before delving into his mouth, tangling their tongues together in Hyunseung’s mouth. Hyunseung sighed into the kiss and leaned forward a little more. After a moment Junhyung pulled back and stared heavy-lidded at Hyunseung’s pink lips. “Okay,” he said slowly, “I’m going to go now.”

“Okay,” Hyunseung agreed, still a tad dazed. “Good luck.”

Junhyung started walking towards the exit before he heard Hyunseung call out his name. He turned around and saw the librarian walking towards him with a small black umbrella clutched in his hands.

“Take it,” Hyunseung said once he was in front of the rapper. “It may don’t do much since you’re already soaking wet, but don’t get sick.”

Junhyung took the umbrella and pecked Hyunseung quickly on the lips. “Thanks,” he said sincerily. “I’ll bring it back to you after my test. Maybe when you get off we can go home together?”

“Sounds good,” Hyunseung agreed, smoothing the shoulders of Junhyung’s jacket. One last peck, and then Junhyung walked back out into the rain.

Junhyung’s last final was with Yoseob. He had been worried about his best friend for a while, but recently it looked like the small brunette had finally been cheering up. It didn’t stop Junhyung from shooting daggers at their TA’s face every class, but at the wishes of Yoseob, he had not caused a confrontation.

But he still longed to sink his fist into that stupid, well-groomed face.

Entering the classroom, Junhyung sought out Yoseob before spotting him by the window. He walked up the hallway and flopped down into the seat next to him.

“An umbrella, Jun?” Yoseob asked, raising an eyebrow at the folded item in his hand. “I thought they were sissy?”

“Shuttup,” Junhyung said happily, placing the small umbrella down next to his chair.

“Ah,” Yoseob said all-knowingly, “that’s Hyunseung’s. Got it.”

Junhyung rolled his eyes. “Well aren’t you just the super sleuth?”

“I am,” Yoseob said blandly. “I am just so amazing like that. Because it’s so not obvious on its own.”

“Hush,” Junhyung said, slouching comfortably in his chair.

“Nervous?” Yoseob asked, resting a cheek against his fist.

“Not really.”

“Me neither,” Yoseob agreed. “I studied.”

“Huh.”

Doojoon walked in the room and Junhyung snuck a glance at his friend’s face. Yoseob looked the same, bored and staring out the window, but Junhyung notice the slight tenseness in his shoulders and the tightening of his jaw.

Doojoon stood in front of the class in dark skinnies and one of his usual soft cardigans. Yoseob noted that it was almost like the one he had hanging in his closet (and stupidly not burned or thrown away yet).

“I’m proctoring this final,” he said, and Yoseob’s lips tightened at hearing him speak for the first time in a month and a half. Even now his heart gave a distressed twist, and Yoseob fought to keep it under control.

As Doojoon walked down their isle passing out scantron sheets, Yoseob caught of a wiff of his cologne and swallowed thickly.

And Junhyung caught it.

Both men were antsy throughout the final for very different reasons. Yoseob finished first, muttering quietly that he’d be waiting in the library coffee shop for when Junhyung was finished. Yoseob walked to the front and Junhyung watched as his best friend gingerly handed his paper to Doojoon, the older man steadily not looking at his face. Junhyung pursed his lips and kept working on his final. Slowly.

Even when he was finished he sat at his desk, pretending to look busy, pretending to check over his answers. Students filed out one by one, handing in their papers to Doojoon and walking out the classroom, the hallway becoming louder as the hour neared its end. Finally the last student left, and Junhyung abruptly stood up, gripping his final in his hand and walking purposely down the isle. Doojoon was playing his eye-averting game still, and Junhyung thrust the paper into his hands.

Doojoon blinked at the aggressive gesture and looked up quickly at Junhyung’s dark expression.

“I don’t know what you did,” Junhyung said quietly. “But you stay the fuck away from him. Because if he is ever upset again, I will fucking kick your ass, do you understand me?”

Doojoon was silent and Junhyung kept his eyes trained on the older boy’s dark irises. Doojoon worked his jaw, striving for something to say, but when he opened his mouth, Junhyung pushed him back with a hard shove. “Don’t talk. Don’t defend yourself, I don’t care. The only reason I’m not killing you right now is because Yoseob asked me not to. So watch yourself, Yoon Doojoon.”

Junhyung glared at him one last moment before walking out the door, slamming it behind him. Doojoon swallowed and put the test on top of the others, trying to ignore how his hand was shaking. Yoseob’s stricken face that day flashed through his mind, and Doojoon sat down heavily in the chair, trying to control his breathing.

Kikwang stepped into the library nervously, glancing around the entryway and curiously eyeing the high walls and bustling students. A white to-go cup was clenched in his hand, slightly cooled from the freezing weather outside, and Kikwang hoped that it was still warm enough for Dongwoon to drink. He walked through the entrance, eyes wide at the quiet comfort the library offered. He understood why Dongwoon would like working here.

Walking up to the front desk, Kikwang’s eyes squinted in a smile as he saw Hyunseung checking out a student’s book. “Seungie!” he called as the student walked away. Hyunseung’s head snapped up at the greeting and a smile crossed his features.

“Kikwang!” he said pleasantly, “what brings you here?”

“I brought Dongwoon hot chocolate,” Kikwang said happily, holding up the cup as evidence. “Is he around?”

“Yeah, he’s around here somewhere,” Hyunseung said, “I think on the second floor shelving books.”

“Thanks!” Kikwang grinned. He made his way up the stairs, smoothing out his blue sweater and checking the collar on his grey pea coat as he journeyed. He was glad he wore contacts today, as the rain would have been troublesome to get off his glasses.

Reaching the landing, Kikwang was at a loss. Right or left? He looked both directions, pursed his lips, and walked right. He peered down the different isles, looking for the tall brunette among the shelves.

Quiet singing alerted him to Dongwoon’s presence before Kikwang even saw him. It was more of an under-the-breath humming, but Kikwang smiled at the pretty voice that floated among the books. Finding the isle, Kikwang hid behind the isle cap and poked his head out to look at Dongwoon, standing in front of a cart and dancing while placing a book on the shelf. So cute. Dongwoon looked up from his job and squeaked upon seeing Kikwang’s head seemingly floating in the air.

“Hyung!” he said, clutching the sweater over his heart and making a face, “you startled me!”

“Hi-yum!” Kikwang said, stepping out from behind his hiding place and walking up to Dongwoon in the isle. “I brought you hot chocolate!”

Dongwoon’s face lit up. “Thanks! You’re the best, Kiki!”

Kikwang grinned as Dongwoon enthusiastically drank from the cup. “Actually,” Kikwang said as Dongwoon was downing chocolate, “I’m here for another reason.”

Dongwoon swallowed his mouthful and looked curiously at the older man, now gnawing at his lower lip.

“What is it, hyung?”

Kikwang shifted from foot to foot and crossed his arms over his chest before staring Dongwoon in the face and loudly exclaiming “go out with me.”

Dongwoon blinked and he felt the blood rushing straight to his face. “Um…like…out, out?”

“Yes,” Kikwang said, back to gnawing at his lip. “Like, out, out. On a date. With me. We’ve been hanging out a lot. I really like you, Dongwoon-ah.”

Dongwoon wondered why Kikwang wasn’t laughing at his red face. “I like you too, hyung,” he said nervously. “I’d really like to go out on a date with you.”

Kikwang grinned brightly before straightening up and walking over to wrap his arms around Dongwoon’s waist. Dongwoon returned the embrace, heart thumping quickly in his chest and he knew Kikwang could feel it.

Kikwang nuzzled into his neck before stepping back. “Okay, then,” he said, “I’m going to uh…go for now but I’ll call you, okay?”

Dongwoon felt like a lunatic for smiling so much. His mouth hurt. “Okay, that’s good,” he said lamely, still kind of wanting Kikwang to hug him again.

And when Kikwang practically floated out of the library, Hyunseung couldn’t stop the laughter that bubbled up from his chest, even if it meant the person if front of him looked at him like he was deranged.
