Check This Out (2/?)
Pairings: Junseung, Dooseob, Kiwoon
Genre: romance
Rating: pg-13

Summary: Between Yoseob’s complicated relationship with his TA, a vague friend (read: contact) who’s got the eyes for the cute ice cream employee, and working to get his dream job after college, Junhyung wonders why his brain decided it was a good idea to chase after a quirky librarian who just doesn’t seem very interested.

Check This Out (2/?)

Yoseob called him a masochist and for once Junhyung agreed. It seemed rather stupid of him to voluntarily walk back into the proverbial lion’s den when all he had to do was shove his library books into the outside bin.  But he couldn’t resist an excuse to see the angry orange-haired boy again, and so Junhyung let the library door close behind him with a foreboding sense of finality. The hush that swept over him just added to his nerves, and Junhyung patted his pocket, assuring himself that his headphones were tucked away and out of sight. Nervously running a hand through his hair, he tugged at his shirt one last time and began walking towards the main desk.

Thanks to his rather profound stalking prowess, Junhyung had (thanks to Yoseob) acquired Dongwoon’s number and from there convinced the younger boy to text him Hyunseung’s work schedule. He then waited until just a few days before his books were due to make his appearance. And he wasn’t let down-as he approached the desk he saw a blob of orange hair sitting at the computer behind the checkout counter.

Score.

Junhyung allowed a natural smile to slip on his face as he reached the desk. Hyunseung didn’t look up from his book.

Junhyung cleared his throat and this time he got a response in the form of a sigh and a tired glance. The surprise of being greeted so coolly must have shown on his face because Hyunseung felt the need to open the conversation with “I saw you preening yourself at the door.”

With blinking eyes, Junhyung gathered his wits about him. “I just needed to check that I hadn’t left my music player somewhere,” he defended.

“sure,” Hyunseung said blandly and returned to his book.

Junhyung stood there a moment before realizing that Hyunseung had no intention of talking with him again. “Umm,” he finally said.

“What,” Hyunseung asked, eyes not leaving the page.

“This is terrible customer service,” he said, pursing his lips.

“Are you returning library books?” and an impatient finger kept his place in his book as large eyes met the rapper’s small ones.

“Yes…”

“Then we don’t need to exchange words. There’s the drop box, have a nice day,” the orange-haired librarian said with a sense of finality and once again, dropped his gaze to his book.

Junhyung gaped and, feeling flustered again, fumbled his books through the appropriate slot before blurting out, “Go out with me.”

Hyunseung snapped his head up, the first extreme response Junhyung had ever seen him give, and widened his eyes. “What?” he asked incredulously.

“One date,” Junhyung said, “one date with me.”

“I don’t even like you,” Hyunseung said, closing his book and crossing his arms over his chest.

“You don’t even know me,” Junhyung reasoned, crossing his arms in a mirroring gesture.

“You’re right, that’s an even better reason to refuse,” Hyunseung said, scratching at a spot above his ear. “I have work to do and this conversation is over. Go away.”

“Fine, be stupid,” Junhyung growled, pulling his mp3 player out of his pocket and slamming his ear buds into his ears. “Fuck this.” He turned his player on full volume, knowing the sound would leak out into the quiet room, and with one last rebellious look at the beautiful man in front of him, Junhyung spun around and prowled out of the library.

“That’s mature, hyung” Yoseob said after Junhyung recounted his story.

“Shuttup,” Junhyung muttered darkly, leaning his elbows on the table in front of him. The two were perched in the corner of the library coffee shop, just off to the left of the library entrance, taking up a small table by the window. Yoseob sipped his hot chocolate and raised an eyebrow.

“Is that the only pathetic way you could attempt to salvage your pride?”

Junhyung wished that Yoseob would spill chocolate all over that white sweatshirt of his. “He was being rude so I just thought I’d return the favor,” he groused.

“You really like this guy, huh,” Yoseob said thoughtfully. “No one else ever kicks your ass this much and still makes you want them.”

“Yeah well,” Junhyung trailed off, picking at his hangnails.

“No, not ‘yeah well,’” Yoseob scolded. “You need to get Dongwoon in on this. He’ll help you out, I’m sure of it.”

Junhyung opened his mouth to tell where Yoseob could shove it when Hyunseung walked into the coffee shop. He had dyed his hair brown, and Junhyung couldn’t stop staring at how dark his eyes looked in comparison. The lithe man was talking rapidly into his phone, quietly, and took a stool at the bar along the main window. Junhyung stared at the lines in his forehead. He looked upset. And Junhyung wanted to be the one that walked over to that stool and smoothed the wrinkles away with his fingers.

Yoseob stared intently at the hungry look on Junhyung’s face and pursed his lips. “You are so fucked,” he said bluntly.

“Huh,” Junhyung asked, still staring at the librarian’s back, the green tee he wore stretching lightly across his shoulders. Yoseob let out a sound of disgust and took another gulp of hot chocolate.

Dongwoon squeaked as he felt a hand grip the back of his shirt and yank him through the bathroom door. He knew it-he knew one of these days he’d be mugged. But in a school? As he was pressed against the bathroom wall, the tall boy couldn’t help but fear for his face. He didn’t like getting hit. Please tell my mother I love her, he prayed to himself, eyes clenched shut in quiet acquiescence.

Nothing happened.

Dongwoon peaked an eye open and peered into two very small, intense eyes staring at him. An eyebrow was up in sarcastic humor.

“I’m not going to beat on you, if that’s what you think,” Junhyung said dryly. Dongwoon’s muscles relaxed and he slumped against the bathroom wall.

“Hyung,” he pleaded, “don’t put me through that emotional trauma.”

“Baby,” Junhyung muttered and took a step back to give the taller boy breathing room.

Dongwoon crossed his arms defensively and glanced around the empty bathroom. Given Junhyung’s rather…crass personality…he wouldn’t be surprised if the older boy had simply glared everyone out of the toilet. Needless to say, it was a little creepy that his hyung dragged him in an abandoned bathroom just to press him against the wall and…talk? Dongwoon wondered what the catch was.

“I need information on Hyunseung.”

Ah. There it was.

Dongwoon gaped at the scowling man in front of him. He was silent for a moment before spitting out the only response he could think of.

“Why?”

Junhyung sighed and suddenly seemed to be looking everywhere except at the underclassman. “He’s not interested. Like…at all.”

Dongwoon processed that information. “So then…what do you need me for? I mean, if he doesn’t want you…” Bad words. Junhyung shot a withering glare at the taller boy and Dongwoon quickly rambled to cover his blunder. “I mean, he just doesn’t know you yet, right? I guess I could do some digging and see what he likes or whatever I mean what kind of guy wouldn’t be interested in someone as awesome as you, right hyung? Ahahaha…”

Junhyung looked at Dongwoon like he was stupid. “Actually, I would like it if you would do that but honestly, Dongwoon, I’m not going to mug you, calm down.”

“Sorry hyung,” Dongwoon said, shoving his hands in his pockets and looking at the tiled floor. “You don’t exactly have the ‘I care for you’ face.”

“I know,” Junhyung groused. “Yoseob likes to remind me of that.”

Dongwoon giggled briefly before falling silent again. “Okay,” he said after a moment. “I’ll dig around, hyung. For you. Because I think Hyunseung hyung could use a bit of excitement in his life.”

Junhyung let out a rare smile and Dongwoon was struck by the thought that he was quite handsome. “Thanks, Dongwoon. I’ll treat you to dinner for this.”

Dongwoon liked him even more now.

Yoseob couldn’t keep the grin off his face all class period. Sure, Junhyung was grumbling black nothings into the air and the teacher was boring as hell, but Doojoon was sitting down there as usual grading papers so all was right in the world.

He wasn’t one to be un-basely confident, but Yoseob was positive, absolutely tingling with the certainty that Doojoon was going to ask him out. They’d dated, cuddled, done…other things. They were practically having the relationship without saying they were having it. Sure he was annoyed that they never really did group things. And sure he noticed that Doojoon was a little irritated with how slow they were going physically. But those things would iron out and Yoseob was feeling ready in taking that next step so…

Yoseob shifted in his seat happily. He was going to talk to Doojoon about it after class today. He imagined the grin on his handsome partner’s face and was all but shaking with anticipation at the love they’d probably make (that night, if Yoseob got his way.)

Yes, all was right with the world. And maybe while he was in domestic bliss with Doojoonie he could rub it in Junhyung’s face as he uselessly chased the gorgeous brunette librarian around campus.

Life in its proper balance.

The teacher dismissed the students and once again Yoseob sent Junhyung ahead of him. Junhyung shot him a look (Yoseob wondered why he was so wary of Doojoon but then again, he was probably just jealous) but continued through the door.

Yoseob cheerfully walked slowly down the aisle and stopped in front of Doojoon’s desk. The dark haired man looked up, giving a small smile to the cute brunette in front of him.

“Hey Seob, how was class?” he asked, pushing his chair back from his desk. Yoseob understood the wordless gesture and took his place in Doojoon’s lap, pressing a kiss to soft lips.

“Boring,” he said, resting his head on Doojoon’s shoulder. Doojoon’s hands ran along his back and Yoseob felt himself calming with the motions.  There was silence before Yoseob spoke.

“Hey Doojoonie?”

“Hmm,” Doojoon responded, the hum in his throat rumbling against the back of Yoseob’s neck. Yoseob’s heart started thudding heavily in his chest and he swallowed nervously before speaking.

“I want to tell people about us.”

Doojoon stopped rubbing his back and Yoseob stared intently at the shoulder he was leaning on.

“I mean,” he continued bravely, “I know that we were kind of just going with the flow but I think I’m…ready…I mean, for us to sleep together and like…” he swallowed again, “make it official and stuff.”

Doojoon tried to pull Yoseob up so he could look at him, and Yoseob’s hands reflexedly clenched onto the back of his shirt. He bit his lip and closed his eyes, fearing the outcome but hoping for the best. “Yoseob,” Doojoon said softly, “look at me.” Yoseob let go of his grip and Doojoon pull him up to look at him.

Yoseob opened his eyes and looked hopefully into Doojoon’s dark eyes.

And his heart dropped into his chest.

Doojoon was looking straight at him and Yoseob couldn’t find any ounce of happiness tracing his features. “Doojoon?” he asked fearfully as Doojoon pushed him off his lap and stood up himself. Doojoon’s hands fell on his shoulders and felt heavy like iron brands.

“Yoseob,” Doojoon said quietly. “I think this isn’t a good time.” Yoseob’s felt his breath quicken and he fought the urge to start crying. His eyes felt heavy.

“Why,” he asked, hands grabbing onto Doojoon’s forearms. “Why is it bad? It wasn’t a bad time before.”

Doojoon shook his head. “Look, you should focus on your studies. It was fun but, neither of us have time for a relationship right now.”

“Would you stop saying us?” Yoseob cried, clenching his eyes shut to keep the tears at bay. He jerked out from under Doojoon’s hands and took two steps back, staring accusingly at Doojoon’s calm, infuriating face. “I have time! I don’t need to focus on my studies! Stop including me in your rejection speech as if you care about how I feel!”

“Yoseob,” Doojoon said and Yoseob felt like punching the daylights out of his even tone.

“You know what?” Yoseob growled, blinking quickly and walking over to grab his bag. “Fuck you, Yoon Doojoon.”

And he slammed the door on his way out.
