I can't sleep. It's almost six am! Chris and I spent four hours moving furniture around in the living room. And that was after we spent about two hours making plans for renovating the kitchen, which consisted of no moving of anything, but making a general plan of action. Kitchen planning is hard. Harder than I thought. But we came to a pretty good conclusion.... everything will be white. White walls, white trim, white accents, white cabinets. The insides of the cabinets will be cut out and replaced with a frosted plexiglass type material, and we'll replace the fixtures on the cabinets and drawers, install an updated ceiling fan, and lights.. then when that's all done tear up the floor and install some beautiful flooring. I'd describe it but I really can't.. it looks like bricks but they're tiles with a nice glaze over them.. darkish brown or darkish oliveish.. yea it's hard to explain. Once that's all finished, we may pick out some accent color for trim or the shutters or some of the randomly placed wood panelling that matches the floor, but that will be after everything is done. We decided on white everything because I said it would be silly to go through all the trouble of picking a color scheme when it might not match the floor, and we might not like it later on... and it would be harder to change it, as opposed to just starting out with white, and you can just paint over that later IF you want to. He wants the kitchen to be bright and I suggested just having a beautiful floor and some nice fixtures and appliances that match, so that you're not overwhelmed with the floor, the cabinets, the countertops, and all the colors... if there were any. So I think it should work out nicely when we're all done. First we have to take the stupid wallpaper down... he seems to think it's going to take a few hours. HA HA! I found that idea just hilarious and I've never even done a project like that. He thinks it will all just take a weekend. I laughed hysterically at that idea as well. He has a great idea for the countertops though. He knows a guy who will help with the cabinets and countertops... but his idea is countertop that is semi clear... and he wants to place a bunch of broken glass inside it. I dunno how he imagines it looking but from what he's described it sounds if you're looking at it from the top, the underneath is white, or some light neutral color, and then there's broken glass (maybe matching colors, who knows) scattered on top of that (maybe in a pattern, maybe sporatically placed), then somehow there's clear stuff all around it that is the actual countertop. Do not ask me how he is going to get this made because I have no idea, but he is certain it can be done and since he knows a guy who does stuff like that, I'm assuming he'll be able to do it.
I'm just glad that Mom and Dennis and Brandy and Josh all just got done remodeling/repairing their kitchens.. so that I can turn to them for tips!
YAY decorating, and boyfriends who take an interest in it, and who also appreciate and ask specifically for my opinions!
