I don't know if y'all are aware... but there's a category five hurricane heading straight for Houston. Rita promises to be one of the largest hurricanes to ever hit the U.S. and the largest to strike Texas. Hopefully, she will calm down before striking land on Friday, but preparedness is the only option right now.

Just keep my family in your thoughts. My parents are NOT evacuating. They do not live in a floodplain, and as the drive to San Antonio is well over 11 hours, it's not feasible to leave. My father just recently had a back fusion, so he can't do a lot of prep work around the house. However, he's been frantically scanning all of my pictures and creating a database for them. My mom, who isn't known for her DIY abilities, has to learn quickly! She has to take in lawn furniture, cover the windows with plywood, and ready our generator. But my parents aren't the only ones I'm worried about. My family stretches around the Gulf Coast area, from Corpus Christi to Austin to Waco. If you didn't know, I had several cousins who were displaced by Katrina, so it's a shock to have even more family evacuating. Plus, my friends, my school, my home - all are facing a massive storm. And I feel so helpless being here in Los Angeles.

Needless to say, my 10 page research paper on Much Ado About Nothing is suffering for my lack of concentration.

Oh, I have three job interviews tomorrow. Wish me luck.
