And now..
7/31/06 9:35pm
Today.. hmm. Today we drove about 3 hours to Tawas, which is a peninsula located around the knuckle of the first finger. It is a nice balmy 88 around here, instead of the 96 predicted for back home. Since we are right on the lake there is a nice breeze going around, so the air is not stagnant and there are very few skeeters. We got here about 1 in the afternoon and spent a few hours setting up the camper, awning, and extra tents. (Steph’s sister offered to set up our tent for $3, so we got out of that torture. ;-) After moping around a little while longer, we decided to go out to the beach. Since we heard the bay part of the beach was warmer, we choose to try that one out first. It was about 85 degrees and knee to waist deep for about a mile off shore. Sooo… we trudged out that mile, and once the water turned deep, turned back so we wouldn’t get run down by motorboats. Jocelyn walked back the entire way, even though it was chest high most of the way for her. She had a blast pulling the bigger kids around in the inflatable boat. I guess it was fun… it gave a pretty good workout and now I am exhausted. Barely past nine and I am ready to call it a night. Bleh.

It was a nice 90 here today. We spent about 5 or 6 hours out in Lake Huron, with breaks for lunch and a quick shopping expedition looking for beach gear, but finding movies and candy instead. Most of the party has some sunburn, some with better designs then others. Matt has a neat dragonfly pattern of paleness in the midst of a see of red that is his back.
Supposedly it is supposed to rain tonight, so we had to move the campsite around and tarp up the tents in the hope of repelling rain. It looks clear, so hopefully the reports are wrong. We are gonna go walk to the beach again and splash around in the surf and look at the stars as soon as I get done with this, so I suppose I should shut up now.

At last, some excitement.
Last night we went out to see the stars on the beach. It was really neat; the sky was so clear and sharp. We counted one plane, three satellites, and 7 shooting stars. Steph and I sat out on the beach for 40 minutes, guessing at the constellations and watching a thunder storm approach on the horizon. Then we bunkered down with hopes of being passed over.
4am, The storm hits. We wake up every few minutes to check for leaks and then catch a few more Zs. 6am Steph interrupts my wonderful dream and drags me into a sopping wet world. Apparently we got a little lazy with the tent-tarping and the tent was not quite set up to par ($3 wasted!). The blankets were soaked and the floor developed puddles, and the water on the roof created saggy spots that started dumping in rain. So we got to spend about an hour attempting to hie our stuff to drier spots and wring out the blankets, and then play in the rain and readjust the tarp and basically rebuild the tent to eliminate the saggy spots. Then we crawled back into our damp beds with damp pillows and damp blankets and attempted too sleep more… to little avail. People are too loud in the mornings.
Later in the afternoon we again went swimming in the lake, building up on the burns accumulated from yesterday. Toward the end of our 3 hour stay the waves finally started to build up, so we got to have some fun with that. We also got to watch a guy parasailing… that looks like soooooooooooo much fun! I want one!
When we got back we dried out the tent and put it away, because of reports of another storm incoming. 10 minutes after we finished, the rains came, and have barely let up. Guess no beach night tonight.
Oh yes. And a rant.
Matt wussed out! I cant believe he just decided to go home! One day left, and he couldn’t stick it out! Bah, whatever. See if I ever take you anyplace again. :-P
