okay, so this is like all fluff and basically spike and caroline both wanting to be dawn's favorite vampire. I'm not promising that it makes sense. just that my muse was very insistent I write it when I saw the prompt.
spring break, dawn/caroline+spike
Dawn sat in the middle of the room, surrounded by her ever growing collection of books that didn’t teach anything the university taught (even that one occult class Dawn and Caroline had taken for fun) and mostly weren’t written in English. She was rearranging them into classifications.
Caroline had wanted to do it alphabetically but Caroline wasn’t allowed to touch the books without Dawn’s permission. And, well, some of them didn’t actually have titles.
Not that Caroline could read anyways.
Caroline was on the other side of the room, disinfecting anything she could find and getting rid of any bit of dust she could find. The blinds open just enough to show the dust in all the hard places.
Spike sat on the bed across the room, his arms across his chest as he watched the two. He kept reaching for his smokes, but he wasn’t allowed to smoke in there, and Dawn had actually had the audacity to take away his lighter when he showed up, reminding them of the rule again.
“I thought Spring Break was supposed to be about having fun,” Spike says when the silence finally got to be too much to him.
(He didn’t like being ignored. Not by Dawn who he had made a special visit to see.)
“I mean aren’t the two of you supposed to be on some nearby beach in bikinis or something? Or drinking your way into a stupor? Or something less…this.”
He looked around him at the cleaning supplies and scattered knickknacks waiting to be cleaned, clearly unimpressed, and Caroline whipped around, an eyebrow raised.
“You’re always welcome to go outside and find some bikini clad co-ed if that’s what you’d like, Spike.”
“Yeah, I don’t exactly feel like the smell of flesh today.” He glares.
“Really? I never seem to have that problem.” Caroline says smirking. Her eyes are on Dawn but they all know the smirk is meant for Spike.
“You know, Dawn, I get the whole blonde thing,” Spike says turning to the other girl, “I have a thing for them myself, and I even get the whole vampire thing because you’re a Summers’ and that just your bloody lots way. But her? Really? Out everyone you could have chosen-”
“Excuse me? Would you like to take a nice visit outside? In the nice shade-less courtyard?”
“You couldn’t.”
Caroline raised her eyebrows again and Spike remembered again that they were different breeds, and Caroline really was strong enough to drag him to that courtyard and watch him burn.
“Fine, you wouldn’t. Dawn here, would never forgive you.”
Dawn just shifted another pile of books.
These arguments were getting more and more common. Sometimes without the other one actually having to be physically present.
“I have ways of making her forgive me, things that you could never do.” Caroline smiles.
Smirks. Leers. Grins.
Spike’s not really sure what it is, only that it’s devilish and dirty, and that Caroline’s at least half right.
“That’s not true. Dawn, tell her that’s not true.”
“You two are why I keep so much aspirin handy.” Dawn mutters, but they both hear anyways because that’s her life.
“Yes, Spike, I would be mad at her if she killed you,” She says turning to the bleach blonde, repeating the words like she had already said them too many times. (Probably because she had.)
“See.” Spike says looking at Caroline in triumph.
“Ugh, tone it down, Spike.” Dawn says standing up to add more books to the bookshelf. “I said I’d be mad if she killed you, but if you keep up with this, she’s going to cause you bodily harm and I won’t stop her.”
Caroline looked triumphant this time. “Never thought I’d say this, but please, Spike, keep talking.”
“You know she used to be nicer before she met you.”
“No, she wasn’t.”
“No, I wasn’t.”
They spoke simultaneously and that annoyed him more.
“Fine, well, she was nicer to me.”
“Maybe she just has a new favorite vampire in her life.” Caroline shrugs.
“Will both of you stop acting like idiots?” Dawn asks turning and looking them both over. “Spike, I still love you, but I also love Caroline and she’s not going anywhere. And Caroline, you know I only get to see Spike every so often, so just get used to him already.”
“But he-”
“She was the-”
“Do I need to repeat the idiot part again? Or do I have to remind you that your both way older than you look and have no reason to act like twelve year olds?”
Seriously, she knew they were both more mature than this. And yet put them in a room for more than ten minutes and this happened.
Every. Single. Time.
“Fine,” Caroline says, making sure she’s the first to step up. “I can be nice. And he can help.”
She threw a rag at him.
“Clean the bathroom.” She says, “No windows in there.”
“No, just gross disgusting germs.”
“You do remember your dead, right?” Dawn turns to look at him, eyebrow raised and an amused look on her face.
“Fine,” Spike groaned and then he was gone, disappearing into the bathroom.
It was almost like peace.
“Want to take a break and have sex while he’s gone?” Caroline asks and something (hopefully not important) breaks in the bathroom.
So much for peace.
Caroline laughs and turns back to disinfecting and Spike goes back to cleaning when he doesn’t hear any…sounds, and Dawn goes back to filing her books in her system. Or trying to.
Stupid vampires.
She kept getting distracted from her books and thinking about sex
*whispers* it's like I've been waiting my whole life for this and now that it is here I don't know what to do exactly but I may implode
