They started to talk after that, each sharing stories about their respective elephants, until Dee had to report for duty.

That sure explains a lot- both why they became friends and why they never became lovers. ;)

The one thing that was, was George, there through it all, the one source of comfort that never wavered, no matter what the circumstances of Felix’s life. He was the string that tied Felix’s life together.

Stuffed animals are so very universal and I love that in this story Felix both had something that saw him through and to leave to Louis.
