So, not even 24 hours and my mums smoking again. My dad gave her a pack at 4am this morning cos she couldn't sleep without a cigarette - strange how she's been sleeping fine the last 5 weeks without one

Hey.
I'm very sorry to hear that things are going so crappily for you. My mom is still smoking too; this after being diagnosed with COPD several years ago. She knows very well that every cigarette puts her closer to needing to wear an oxygen tank around, and ultimately to dying from loss of lung function, but that still isn't enough to dissuade her.

And yes, you're absolutely right about honesty sometimes being the absolute worst thing you can do. All too often, the persnickety rules lawyers will punish you for trying to do the right thing, so if at all possible, just play dumb, and give them the absolute minimum amount of information on whatever they ask about. Don't worry, there are a LOT of genuinely stupid people out there, they expect to have to deal with a lot of morons. Blend in, act retarded, and things go much more smoothly.
