Full Moon Rising

"You have to go?"

"Full moon, remember?" Collin shot back, rendered irrationally defensive by his boyfriend's surprise.

"Yeah. Werewolf and wereyorkie? Not exactly species devoted to each other's destruction," Eric argued. He rolled his eyes.

"Look, no offense, but I prefer to be alone when I'm shifting. It's just easier."

The brunette studied him from behind a bemused expression. He slouched back against the table, waiting. They'd had an early dinner in deference to the date, and he'd kind of hoped he could just escape all the questioning and go hide in his apartment, like he always did. True to form, his werewolf was proving totally oblivious to the plan, but he wasn't really worried. They had plenty of time before moonrise.

"Sweetheart? Is this another of the things you're not going to like me asking about?"

He shrugged.

"It's a personal preference, Eric. Let it go."

The werewolf still looked doubtful, but at last he gave an unhappy nod. Not quite wanting to leave it that way, Collin tugged the guy down for a firm kiss goodbye.

"See you tomorrow, wolfboy."

------

Strong, gentle hands carded through his hair, tugging gently on the strands. He moaned, feeling the delicate bruising rise on his neck as his lover nibbled a lovebite there. His whole body felt warm and relaxed, lassitude swept through and sleep almost taking its place. Almost. Instead there was sweeping pleasure, limbs curled around limbs and heads swaying back and forth as they traded the right to choose where to kiss.

His watch alarm went off.

"What's that telling us?" Eric asked him. From his tone, he had a guess.

"That it's ten minutes to moonrise," he admitted. The werewolf groaned.

"You're disappearing on me again?"

"Just..."

Eric put a finger over his lips.

"You're coming over tomorrow to finish this."

He snickered.

"I promise."

------

"Collin -- stay. Please."

He stopped, his shoulders slumped. Eric sounded so sad that he was starting to feel guilty, but he just...

"Not yet, okay?" he said softly, and his lover dropped his hand with a sigh.

"I guess I'll see you tomorrow?"

"Yeah," he muttered, and fled before he could be held back.

------

Collin eyed his boyfriend warily. He still wasn't sure this was a good idea. It had been years since he'd even been around his own family during the full moon, much less a lover, and he'd always avoided werewolves even more when they were wolves than when they were in human form.

Eric pretended to ignore him, lounging between the couch and the fireplace in total relaxation. Long limbs stretched out to catch the heat, eyes closed, mouth cracked open. He looked utterly at home, which made sense, because this was his home. His furniture, his rugs, his fire, all of it -- except the fire -- drenched in his scent, both human and canine.

The wereyorkie huffed. This was going to end in tears, he was sure of it. This was going to turn into a disaster, just as soon as he emerged from beneath the dining room chair.

------

Collin glared at his lover. Eric grinned back in his lupine way, so the smaller were batted irritably at his nose. The wolf sneezed, and licked him in retaliation.

Later, as the clock chimed midnight, the yorkie gave up on glaring indignantly at the fire. His lover, being many, many times his size, was curled up around him, his big body blocking in the heat. The thick, luxurious rug beneath them was almost as good as the couch would be, and afforded a much bigger space to wiggle around on if he -- for some strange reason like wanting to get to his food dish -- needed to get out from under the werewolf's leg.

He still thought there was something ridiculous about a yorkie and a wolf snuggling up together, but he figured complaining about this could wait until he'd shifted back to a form that could produce human speech. That way Eric would try to pacify him with breakfast, instead of demonstrating that a wolf's paw was almost bigger than a yorkie's head. And licking him again.

What was it with wolves and licking?
