blah blah blah whiney art student
Why did no one tell me before i applied that you do 10 times the amount of work at art school as you do at normal university! Seriously; if you do economics or whatever you go to lectures, you research, you write your reports and then you all go for a drink. At art college everyone talks and thinks about their respective projects 247. Don't get me wrong, im loving year two but i dont think the perfectionist obsessive complusive high achiever in me can take it. Every spare moment im researching or planning or painting or drawing or asking for advice. I wouldn't recommend it for the faint hearted.
I would love to know where that preconception that art school students are slackers cpmes from. Maybe its only at Glasgow School of Art we're like this. Who knows.
Anyway, one of my new tutors (a painting and printmaking tutor bare in mind) told me today the PAINTING IS DEAD. Wow, way to go encouraging a hard working and enthusiastic student. He actually old me to stop trying to learn to paint and i know for a fact i am not THAT BAD that there is no hope for me. What an absolute bastard.
After asking around however i have discovered that he is in fact Severus Snape in disguise. and not a very good one at that. He swoops around all in black in a long trench coat with greased back hair. He believes that society is in decline, is an honest to god anti establishment, makes work about "the infestations of a totalitarian universe" and says post modern about 10000 times a day. Most imoortantly though he not so secretely wants to be a photography tutor but has never been given the job. Maybe one day he'll get it, because at least then he'll be cursed out of school within a year.
