If there is one specific writer who shaped my childhood it must be the lovely lady
Diana Wynne Jones.
In her stories I found my future dog, adventures, humour rich self distance, puzzles and mysteries I had to work hard to solve, that things are not always as they seem and to see the whole you must look at many different angles at the same time, that stories got better if you knew more stories (in her case especially Arthurian ones but others as well) and that scary things can be very pleasant to read.
It took me a long while to realise that most books I read when I was in grade 4-6 (those years when I had left my home town for one I hated) was mainly all her books and Jules Verne. When I realised, some time 12-13 years later, I went out to try to find everything in unabridged English versions. So far I haven't found everything but instead had a chance to read a bunch of her other stories. So, more stories to me.
She
passed away in March last year and hearing of it made me sad, although I know that it is always a part of life. Her stories will live on and I will do my uttermost to make sure that people around me has access to them.
