Rocky Horror Picture Show

Released in 1975. Similarly to obsessions with Punk Rock it was already a little weird to see kids of my own generation who were both age discriminative and yet so focused on something which was culturally closer to their parents than them. Now 35 years since its release Rocky Horror seems more like the cultural grandparent of the kids now into it. Is Rock Horror truly timeless, or does it simply find itself re-appealing over and over again to uncultured children growing into their sexuality that haven't quite moved past whole "wink wink nudge nudge" thing?

Frankly I think RHPS is a cultural artifact. Even in its own time it was a snarky wink at previous generations. Moving forward it seems to smell more and more of mothballs and cobwebs. It was cute the first couple times I saw it, and then I realized if I spent all my time reliving my parents generation, I might never be part of my own. But I suppose this is the first truly recycled generation. Maybe I should just stop complaining and start screen printing t-shirts with giant lips on them..
