Who: Kurt Hummel and Artie Abrams
What: Song Rehearsal
When: Feb 22, 2012
Where: Auditorium
It was a Tuesday afternoon, and Kurt walked into the auditorium. He took a look around, smiling to himself. He always liked getting new assignments... except if he had to do it with the boy group. He didn´t feel like they understood him that well, or appreciated his talents. Artie seemed nice, though. He didn´t know him that well and they never hung out together in private. Kurt put down his back and sat down on one of the chairs. He crossed his legs and rested his hands on his knee, waiting patiently for the other boy.
Artie had spent a while trying to compile a list of songs that inspired him and the playlist had gotten crazy long. Apparently, he had a lot more inspirations than he had originally guessed. It didn’t help either that inspirational music, gospel, had kept creeping in too and he was pretty sure that it was supposed to be inspirations, not inspirational. Hmmm. He’d have to see what Kurt found.
Arriving in the auditorium, Artie scanned the large room for the other boy. He wasn’t sure how he felt entirely about working with Kurt, not because he was a bad guy or anything, but well...he was more like one of the girls. And that honestly confused him a lot of the time and he had no idea how to talk to Kurt without potentially offending him, which he did not want to do. Spying him a few rows down and in, Artie pushed his chair as close as he could get, blocked by the stairs, “Hi,” he called.
Kurt was lost in thought when he was pulled back to reality by Artie´s voice. He looked up, smiling at him. “Oops..” He noticed that Artie had trouble getting closer because of the stairs. He picked up his bag and made his way to him. “Sorry.” he smiled at him. He looked around once. “Ok, I have a couple of suggestions, but most of them are Broadway songs and I had trouble finding something that would fit our voices together.”
Artie didn’t comment when Kurt came closer, it was just...how it was. “Okay,” he nodded, pulling his ipod out along with his headphones and a headphone splitter from his backpack. If Kurt had his own headphones then they could both listen to things. “Yeah...I wasn’t sure what you might find inspiring. Except maybe fashion.”
“I find music inspiring.” Kurt found his own iPod in his bag, handing his headphones to Artie so he could plug them in the splitter. “And Broadway plays, fabulous costumes, romance...emotions.” he thought about it. He would be very surprised if Artie had chosen something that would express the creativity and drama Kurt so adored.
Yeah...none of that really helped. It wasn’t that Artie wasn’t inspired, but it wasn’t really by plays or costumes or things like that. He nodded politely though, “Music is inspiring,” he agreed, but didn’t think Run DMC or Tupac was quite Kurt’s cup of tea, “You’ve mentioned your dad a couple times, so I thought maybe family?” he got the songs cued up.
Kurt hadn´t even thought about that. “That´s a really good idea!” he loved his dad, and he could see himself singing something to him, to show how much he cared. He sat down on a seat by Artie, crossing his legs. “Few things are as inspiring as a supportive, loving parent.”
He nodded, agreeing. His parents were absolutely amazing. “So...check this out, then,” he handed Kurt the earbuds to his ipod. “It’s from the Lion King musical actually.”
“That sounds like something I could do.” Kurt’s face lit up in a friendly smile. He listened closely. He probably knew the song, even though the Lion King musical wasn’t in his Top 5.
“Cool,” Artie had really struggled on this and, in fact, it was his mom who had suggested that he look at musicals. He’d gone through The Wiz, Lion King and a few others before settling on this song. “We got a song then.”
