WHO: Sass and Quinn.
WHAT: Looking for Niki, finding Quinn.
WHERE: Fabray House.
WHEN: Friday, January 20th, 2012. Afternoon.
Whenever Sass smoked around Niki he always gave her shit about it. So, usually she did just to annoy him. Unfortunately she was out of cigarettes and getting them in Lima was much harder than it had been at home. She stuffed her hands into her coat pockets and made her way out of her house and towards Niki’s. The street lights had yet to come on but she guessed they would soon. Hopping up the steps to his front door she reached out and knocked, stepping back a bit as she waited for someone to answer.
Quinn was watching television and neglecting the world. She was hungry, but knew she really shouldn't eat. Instead, she was drinking water. When she heard the knock on the door, she frowned. She hadn't been expecting anyone. She got off the couch and moved toward the door. She opened it and recognized some chick from school. Quinn didn't know much about her really, except she was pretty sure she had an accent of some sort. "Yeah?"
“Right, hi.” Sassafras said, admittedly nervous since this must be Quinn the evil spawn of the devil also known as Niki’s cousin. “Is Niki here?”
"No," Quinn answered. She sucked in a breath, trying to remember her manners, though she usually chose to ignore them. "I think he's, like... gonna be home soon so..." She opened the door a little more, indicating that Sass could come in.
Sassafras was surprised when Quinn invited her inside. “Brilliant. Thanks.” She said as she stepped past her and into the house. They weren’t friends and Niki wasn’t home so she didn’t move much further than the main entrance. She knew she didn’t need to make conversation and, considering what she’d heard from Niki, she probably shouldn’t. But it was weird to be standing in the girl’s home and not saying anything. “Quinn, right?” She finally asked.
"Yeah..." Quinn closed the door behind her. She frowned as she stared at Sass. Why did Niki have friends like her? Quinn already didn't like her. "Yeah, what's your name?" She really had no idea.
Looking around Sassafras couldn’t actually imagine anyone living in the house. Everything looked filed and ordered and like it hadn’t actually been moved since it first been set down. “It’s Sass.” She could practically feel Quinn appraising her as she spoke. “I go to McKinley too.”
"Right." Quinn drew in a breath, letting silence sit between them for the moment. She cleared her throat. "You want, like, a drink or something?" She really didn't want to entertain and she knew she should have just told her Niki wasn't home and to go away.
“No. No, thank you.” Sass corrected. It seemed like Quinn was trying to be polite so she assumed she could return the favor. Plus, with how awkward the situation was she wanted a drink and not a cup of water.
"Okay." Quinn was actually sort of hoping she would want something just so they wouldn't have to stand here awkwardly anymore. "Well... I guess you can wait for Niki in his room or I was watching TV, if you just wanna, like, chill or whatever." Quinn started toward the living room.
Debating for a moment before following after her, Sassafras unzipped her coat as she settled on the edge of the couch. She shrugged out of her coat and held it in her lap as her attention shifted to the t.v. “Thanks.”
Quinn began to flip through the stations slowly, watching the television and ignoring Sass for the moment. She was trying to think of something to say because this silence was kind of annoying. "So, you're from like, London or something?"
“I am.” Sass nodded. “Yes. Have you - have you always lived here?” Sassafras couldn’t help but sigh. This couldn’t be more awkward.
"Pretty much," Quinn answered. She tossed the remote down beside her on the couch and leaned forward to grab her water. She took a sip from it before setting her cup back down. "So. Anyway. Why are you friends with Niki?" she asked Sass, looking over at her.
Looking away from the t.v. to meet Quinn’s gaze Sassafras replied, “Why wouldn’t I be?” She frowned, “And if your main reason is going to be because he’s gay I really don’t want to hear it.”
"Of course not!" Quinn said quickly. "That's not the main reason. He's pretty annoying. And I would know. I have to live with him." She tried not to roll her eyes. Ugh, she didn't like Sassafras.
Sassafras stood and pulled her coat back on. “Right, sure.” As she zipped up she said, “Could you just let him know that I stopped by?”
Now, Quinn did roll her eyes. "You're seriously leaving?" she asked her. "I told you he's going to be home soon if you really want to hang out with him." She paused. "You probably should wait because I'm sure I'll forget to tell him." Or just not tell him at all. Quinn tried to avoid talking to Niki.
“Fine, don’t tell ‘em. I’ll see him some other time.” Sliding her hands into her pockets Sass nodded. She could tell that Quinn was getting annoyed which only annoyed her and she didn’t want to deal with it. “It was nice... to meet you, I guess.”
"That's one sided," she told her with a frown. It wasn't that nice meeting Sass, but now she was curious. "Did you get offended because you're gay too?" Quinn asked with a raised eyebrow.
“I’m not offended.” Sass shrugged. “I just don’t care for close minded people.”
"Right. You're probably gay too. It's okay. I'm not gonna, like, condemn you or anything. You'll be judged by God eventually." She kept her tone upbeat, but it was sort of mocking.
Sassafras laughed. “I’m not gay.” Looking up in faux surprise she asked, “Oh, I just remembered. I’ve seen you at school with Gray. Are you two dating?”
Something flashed across Quinn's eyes, a touch of confusion and perhaps a little jealousy just in the way that Sassafras said that, but she quickly lost the expression. "Yeah, we are, actually. What about it?"
“That’s sweet.” Sassafras said, her tone was obviously condescending. “It’s cute.”
Quinn set her jaw and tried not to glare. "Why do you say it like that? What? You don't like him or something?" Grayson bothered a lot of people. Maybe she just didn't get along with him.
“Like what?” Sassafras asked, eyes playfully wide. “I like him. Why’re you getting all worked up?”
The blonde frowned as she tried to figure out what angle Sass was coming from. "I'm not worked up," she shrugged it off. "I just didn't know you two were friends or whatever."
“I’m not sure I’d call us friends. But, I think we’re closer than the average acquaintance.” Sassafras waited a beat, letting Quinn think over what she’d just said before she continued, “But anyway, congratulations I guess. I’ll show myself out.”
What the fuck did that even mean? Quinn was suddenly pretty sure she knew. She got up off the couch and moved toward Sass. "So, what? You two hooked up or whatever?"
Sassafras really didn’t want to fight over Grayson. She didn’t even like him so much as she liked to look at him. But, she wasn’t surprised that Quinn’s most obvious button was him. “I didn’t say that. You’re jumping to a pretty big conclusion. Is there something you’re worried about, Quinn?”
Quinn wouldn't let Sass know she was actually bothering her. Well, she was trying not to show it. She shook her head. "Nope, not worried." She went to the television and turned it off before heading back toward the hall. "I'm going upstairs. You can either wait for Niki down here or go home. I don't really care." Quinn headed for the stairs.
“I’ll head home.” Sassafras headed for the door, calling out as she pulled it open, “Good luck.”
