Puck grinned as she rolled another strike. "You're never gonna win, McNeil. I've got magic hands." Puck joked, wigging her fingers at Rose's face. She sat back down in her chair, taking a sip of her soda. Rose was pretty good at bowling herself, but ( Read more... )

"Well I have been talking to someone, but we aren't like really dating..." Rose started to ramble off. She really didn't know what to call her texting Jason all the time, but he never really made a move. 'Boys, so silly' she thought.

"I guess I have been on a couple trips and other things. We went to Mississippi at the start of the summer." Rose looked around the bowling alley.

"I could really use some nasty greasy fries, what do you think?"

Puck laughed. "Who is he?" she grinned. Getting up from her seat. "And you only want fries because you're losing so terribly. What can I say? I'm a master." She chuckled.

"I could go for fries, though."

"What can I say, losing makes me hungry." Rose grinned as she threw on some shoes. She didn't want to walk across the floor of the bowling alley in her socks. What if there was gum or spilled pop?

"Two fries coming up. As far as the boy goes, well when it becomes something real, you can be the first one to know."

Puck laughed, following Rose to the food counter. "Good," she grinned, "I love being first. Which, as you know, is pretty much always." Especially when it comes to the soccer team, she resisted adding. "But you get to tell me about him now anyways because I don't have anything else interesting to talk about."

"Come on, Miss Winner, lets get you some fries."

Rose approached the counter and ordered the fries. Taking a step back to wait for the order. She turned back to Puck and considered telling Puck all about her nightly talks. She generally did the girl talk thing with Bree, the sex talking with Emily and used Puck to talk about normal stuff.

"Okay, I'll tell you. I have been talking to Jason Nelson a lot lately. We danced at Emily's party a couple weeks ago and it's kinda grown into talking. We aren't dating or anything though. He's not making a move, and I don't know what I should do. What would you do?"

Rose thought for a second and realized that she never remembered Puck having a boyfriend, or any crushes. Shrugging it off she just figured Puck kept that stuff to herself.

Puck froze for a moment at the mention of Emily's party. For a moment she could hear the sound of muffled music beating through the walls, the feeling of fingers digging into her shoulder. She shrugged it off instead for memories of beds and moonlight filtering in through the curtains. She looked up at Rose's expecting face. Oh, right. She asked a question. She shrugged.

"We're not in the Stone Age anymore, McNeil. If you want something, go for it. No need to wait for permission," she replied grabbing the plates of food from the counter and making her way back to where they were sitting. "Ask him out. Make the first move."

Rose thought about what Puck said. She had a point, Rose had to admit, but she was a southern girl at heart, and southern girls aren't that forward.

"You know, you're right. I just need to take the leap and say something. It goes against my nature, but it's worth a shot."

Rose thought about sending a text, but figured she would call him instead.

"I will call him right now, while I still have courage."

Puck laughed, taking a few fries and cramming them in her mouth. They were greasy and delicious. Deliciously greasy. Greasily delicious.

"You do that," she replied as she leaned back in her chair. "Just don't forget I'm here."

"It's better with you here, you can make sure I don't chicken out!"

Rose took her phone out of her pocket. u5 phone was a generation ago, but that didn't bother Rose. She scrolled through her contacts on the touch screen and selected Jason's name.

The phone rang and rang.

Rose considered hanging up, it was just too nerve-wracking waiting for him to answer. She pulled the phone away from her ear.

"He's not answering."

Puck shrugged, eating another fry.

"Call him later. Or leave him a message. He's probably busy," she replied as she reached for her soda. I love how I'm saying this like I know anything about relationships. The one she was currently having with Emily in secret was only her second. The first one was also in secret. She'd never known her mother in a relationship. Her brother ran away from the one relationship he had. I suddenly remember why I don't usually give relationship advice. And about thirty seconds too late. She sighed.

"Yeah I'll call him later." Rose hung up the phone, but she was still wondering what Jason could be doing. It wasn't like he had a job or anything.

Rose took one of her fries, dipped it in ketchup and placed it in her mouth. The greasy fry was delicious, and Rose was glad that she still had a great metabolism.

"Yumm. Now tell me what you have been up to this summer Miss Lily."

Puck laughed. "What have I been up to this summer?" she asked with a grin. Banging the brains out of my girlfriend? Inappropriate. She smiled at the thought, though it turned more into the way Emily was constantly rolling her eyes, trying to pretend to be unamused by Puck's antics when most of the time she couldn't stop herself from smiling anyways. She shrugged. "Getting drunk and making bad decisions like a true badass, probably."

"Probably? I would say you were if you can't remember. Bad decisions and drinking go hand and hand my friend."

Rose liked the occasional drink here or there, but she knew that Puck was doing way more than that. Sometimes she worried about Puck, but Rose knew that the girl was smart, so she could only hope that she was staying safe.

"Can we try and remember from now on?" Rose said, partly as a joke, partly as a hint to tell her friend to lay off the booze.

Puck smiled sweetly. Rose was getting that concerned look. Puck had spent the last month or so being mostly sober. She was fully aware of the consequences of drinking, and she kind of liked the whole relationship thing when Emily wasn't being a total asshat, so she wasn't about to go screw things up by being drunk.

"Yeah, yeah, yeah," she replied, taking a sip of her soda. "Don't worry; I haven't killed anyone and I'm not pregnant."

"STD's? But I am glad that you are not pregnant. You as a teenager mother, well that would be a sight to see." Rose wanted the line to come out as a joke, but after she said it she realized what an insult it could be. She popped another fry in her mouth so that she didn't make anymore mistakes.

"Sorry for going all mom on you."

Puck laughed. "Damn, McNeil. How around do you think I'm getting?" She ate another fry before adding, "and I'll be damned if I ever turn out to be a teenage mom." She shook her head, completely missing Rose's embarrassment. She took another sip of her soda.

"As for being all motherly," she grinned, "it's kind of cute that you care so much." She ruffled Rose's hair, dodging the hands that quickly followed to bat Puck's hand away.
