Who: Jen and Bree
When: February 24, 2019
Where: WMHS
What:A hallway chat
Status: Complete

“Hey Bree.” Jen smiled coming up to the blonde’s locker. She lowered her voice so only Bree could hear instead of attempting to yell over everyone else in the hallway. “I was wondering, have you heard anything about the girls who are trying out for the soccer team this year? I mean, I know I’m not playing and you’re on the Cheerios, but I’m just wondering if you’ve heard anything.”

Bree shut her locker and turned to face Jen. “Hey Jen! Not really, I haven’t heard anything yet. Why don’t you ask-” she chattered, almost saying Puck. She suddenly remembered Puck and Jen’s history. It wouldn’t be the wisest to tell Jen to talk to Puck. Puck’s feelings still needed arranging. “...ask Kat. I mean, she’s the team captain, she would know better than I would.”

“Kat’s captain?” Jen asked. “I didn’t even know that. But I’ll ask Kat.” She said with a laugh as she playfully emphasized the other girl’s name like Bree had.

Bree laughed nervously. “Yeah, she is. You should congratulate her the next time you see her. Um, certain sources have told me she’s been incredibly stressed after getting the position,” she said, again trying not to mention Puck’s name.

“I bet.” Jen nodded. “There’s probably a lot of pressure for a repeat.” She frowned as Bree looked around the hallway, never directly at her. “Am I...bothering you?”

Bree sighed. She was really bad at hiding things. “No. I just... don’t really know how to act around you anymore. Puck told me... about the two of you.” she blurted. She wasn’t even sure if she was allowed to talk about it, but Jen was her friend too.

“Puck, Puck told you about...what did...” Jen couldn’t string together a proper sentence. “That’s...oh...okay.”

“I’m, uh, sorry if you didn’t want me to know. I can erase my own memory or something. You can make me swear an oath not to tell even,” Bree said, panicking a little.

“No, it’s...totally fine.” Jen tried to smile. “I mean, you know already. It’s not like you could really erase that. But um, what - what did she say?” Jen bit her lip. “You don’t have to tell me. It’s private, you’re her best friend. Is she okay? I mean, are we, you and I, okay?”

“Okay. Still, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to give off unfriendly vibes or anything,” Bree said, giving Jen a friendly smile. “That, you should get from her, not me. I’m not really in the right position to say anything about it,” she added, shrugging. “As for us, of course we’re okay. I mean, we’re friends, right?”

“Yeah, we’re friends.” Jen nodded. “I just...you’re her best friend. So you know I don’t want to cause any problems between you two. I didn’t even know you knew. I’m...this is just really surprising. I don’t know why because, like I said, you’re her best friend. I’m...happy that she talked to you. It’s good. It’s good that she has a friend like you to talk to.”

Bree smiled. “Good. And don’t worry about it. Our frienship and your relationship with Puck are two separate things. I’d be sad if I couldn’t be friends with you anymore because of this,” she said, putting on a sad face for extra measure.

Jen smiled but before she could stop herself she asked, “Is Lily okay?” Her eyes shut tightly and she took in a quick breath. Damn, she should be able to talk about the other girl without doing this all over again. “We haven’t spoken.” She shrugged as if it were no big deal. “We’re not talking. So, could you...tell me if Puck is okay?”

“Jen, I can’t say,” Bree said, apologetically. It’s making her confused. All this drama is making Puck confused. “How about you? Are you okay?”

“It’s fine. It’s totally fine. I understand.” Jen nodded quickly. “I’m fine,” at Bree’s look she added, “you just worry about Puck and taking care of yourself.” She tried to tease Bree a little to lighten the mood. “Eat something. I am perfectly fine.”

“Hey, The Diet never stops,” Bree said, grinning and shaking her head. “And as for you, you shouldn’t worry too much. It’ll give you frown lines.” she teased.

Jen smiled shaking her head and then pulling Bree into a hug. “Yes ma’am.” She whispered. “We’ll sneak something later.”

Bree returned the hug. “Hey, if it’s a promise and it’s about food, you have to keep it!”

“Me and a slice of cake will see you tomorrow.” Jen smiled as she stepped back.

“That sounds like a really good plan. A really delicious plan. Now you’re making me hungry!” Bree said, smiling. Things weren’t so bad after all.

“What can I say?” Jen said with a shrug. “I make great plans. I’ll talk to you later Bree.”

Bree nodded. “I’ll see you around, Jen.”
