Since September, I've:
-Moved into the guest bedroom of two Asian lesbians, one of whom was a real estate agent with whom we were supposed to work.
-Moved out of the guest bedroom into a yet to be completed ~400 sq. ft. guest cottage, still being worked on by Cantonese contractors. That whole thing was a friends-of-friends "friendly" arrangement - and consequently earned us the right to pay $1400 a month + $200 a month for a storage unit to live in rock'n'roll No-wheres-ville. With friends like this, eh? Yes, they took from our deposit.
Let's see, if you're a real estate agent who wants to potentially earn tens of thousands of dollars off a sales commission, would you hose your current renters/potential clients? YES, YOU DO.
-Moved out of the drafty guest cottage from hell into a 2 bedroom pseudo-loft in San Francisco proper. I think it's grand here, balcony with view of the Bay Bridge and the water. But we've all recently gotten a letter from the landlord agency about handling our own noise disputes, advising us not to get into noise wars. I wasn't aware that there were any noise disputes, but I have to say that the letter made me want to run up and down the hallway yelling "NOISE WAR!!! NOISE WAR!!!"
-Left my current job
-Chicago, Hawaii over the holidays
-Currently splitting time between SF and a crazy Tahoe ski haus that
aem7 hooked us up with.
I'm basically blissfully unemployed, and channeling the lifestyles of the semi-retired and powerless. For example, I actually spend time on angry letters and phone calls to state unemployment agencies, attorneys general, utility companies, and San Francisco's Department of Parking Violations.
The SF DPV are a bunch of grimy banditos, btw. It's not like I go around wishing physical harm upon others, but when I heard a local news teaser about how meter maids were being attacked, I won't lie to you - my first thought was "serves them right." I've read that the city has outsourced the management of both parking garages and parking enforcement to the same for-profit company. How would you like to work for those guys? I can't think of a better way to just BEG for a Karma beat down.
And apparently, all my free time is spent on activities that were big during the 70's, like tennis, skiing, and allegedly cycling. I've decided I'm the kind of cyclist that enjoys the smug sensation of getting somewhere under my own power - but I need to be going somewhere. Riding just to ride doesn't really do it for me. Plus, there are hills. And I'm lazy. And I'd rather read about home buying and depression economics.
Ah, housing bubble. Maybe I should get a job before it really hits the fan.
