Ruka didn't leave for Rougestu Island at the same time as Misaki & Madoka due to the fact that her mother had recently become seriously ill. She only leaves for the island once her mother has already passed on.
Ruka finds music to be very therapeutic, and almost always has one melody or another stuck in her head. If she's stuck doing a menial task, she'll hum.
A part of Ruka resented her mother for leaving her father behind on the island, and not trying harder to recover her lost memories. Because of it, their relationship was rocky at best, and while Ruka always remained polite and cordial, she was distant. Ruka regrets her misguided anger the most due to all the mother-daughter moments she lost because of it.
Her maternal instincts are very strong, and is the type to mother and comfort and care. This is especially true for her friends, but she has trouble expressing it.
Ruka enjoys her solitude, and quiet, and prefers an hour of book reading or thinking to an hour out with friends. That isn't to say she doesn't enjoy company, but finds that a moment alone can be just as enjoyable (or more so) than time out and about.
Sayaka spent a lot of time in and out of the hospital, so through the years Ruka has picked up on some medical knowledge. She can't sew a wound (she can if she tried, but it would be messy) , but she knows a thing or two on how to stop bleeding, and how to apply a bandage.
With her mother bedridden much of the time, Ruka did all the housework. She greatly enjoys cooking, and doesn't mind the cleaning.
Her first non distorted memory after the failed ceremony was being rescued by Choushiro Kirishima, and after that she always idealized her first love to be someone kind of like him. She also may have had an itty bitty crush.
Everything Ruka experiences in the Underworld is written down in a leather-bound journal. Every person she meets, every memory she makes, is carefully and thoughtfully penned. The journal is kept inside an old violin case.
Chances are, if Ruka has met a person in the Underworld, she has written their melody (each soul has a song, and Ruka can hear them) down. The longer she spends in their company, the more complete and accurate their melody becomes. She has only two finished pieces--Loki's, and Misaki's.
Ruka spends a great deal of her time in the Underworld writing music. Her room is filled with sheet music--folders are filled, some are taped to the wall (a way to remind herself to finish. that. melody), and even more are scattered on her dresser, end table, and vanity.
There is a piano in the living room. It wasn't there when she first moved in. In fact, it took almost a month to find one she liked enough to convince someone to help her move it in. It sits in a corner, and is used almost every single day.
Ruka hasn't touched Loki's room since his disappearance. A part of her keeps expecting him to reappear some day.
