A simple equation, with no complications to leave you confused
If this is love...it’s the easiest thing to do
It was one of the peaceful days in Kingdom of Hell.
The statement was almost true, if only Heechul’s human-phone didn’t ring and ruined the peace. Heechul lazily shifted his eyes from the latest issue of Exovile magazine to the device on the table. His eyebrows furrowed together into a line as he recognized the ID of the caller.
“Queen Heechul.”
Heechul immediately straightened in his seat. It was rare for the queen of heaven to make a call to their kingdom-morever a video call. Whatever it was, Heechul assumed it must be serious. He was still frowning, but somehow managed to flip his hair gracefully as he nodded.
“Good afternoon, Queen Jaejoong.”
Jaejoong smiled kindly in return. “I’m sorry to have bothered your precious Sunday afternoon...”
“Oh no, by all means, please,” Heechul leaned forward to his screen, his palm tucked underneath his chin. “Is there anything else I can help you with?”
“I believe so,” Jaejoong said softly as he looked at something beside him. Heechul couldn’t make out what it was. “Queen Hee, I’m sure everything is all right...but please, I just want to make sure.”
Heechul was starting to get really worried. “Yes?”
“It’s just-my husband has been getting a lot of helpless prayers from the humans lately.”
Heechul blinked too many times at the statement and he wanted to snort at that. However, he was still the Queen of Hell and graceful was needed. Heechul casually leaned his back against his chair with a nonchalant shrug. “Of course. Humans pray everyday. I don’t see the problems in that, Queen Jae.”
“...they’re hoping for their sins-morever their seven sins-to go, out of their lives. Completely.” Jaejoong pursed his lips. “And by completely, I mean for good.”
Heechul almost fell from his chair. “You said seven sins?? Are you accusing my children-do you have any proof?? How dare you-“
“I’m not-we’re not accusing anything,” Jaejoong hastily interrupted before Heechul even got to finish his sentence. Damn, facing the Queen of Hell wasn’t his favorite thing to do. “That’s why I just wanted you to make sure.”
“Listen,” Heechul gritted his teeth indignantly. “None of my children-I repeat, none of my children are messing with the world down there. What you’re saying is non-sense.”
Jaejoong gave Heechul a small, graceful smile. “If you say so, then it must be true... I’m glad to hear that. Perhaps humans are only praying for peace. So...I guess I should just dump all of these prayers to the recycle bin?”
“On second thought, you can send me some for backup,” Heechul sent Jaejoong his most beautiful eyesmiles as he waved a hand dismissively. “It’s always nice to read humans’ trash!”
Jaejoong’s shocked face was the last thing he saw before Heechul flicked his fingers and the connection was cut off. He puffed his cheeks as he sagged in his seat. Heechul took a deep breath before calling someone in a sing-song voice. “Oh, Jonghyun~”
Jonghyun magically appeared with dust everywhere and Heechul coughed into his fist. “Yes?”
“Call your brother, tell him his sons have been sneaking down to earth again.”
***
“This is outrageous!!” Hangeng cried angrily. “Simply outrageous!!”
“What is, dear?” Heechul asked despite the fact that he knew what the answer was going to be.
Hangeng was standing by the table with a confused look all over his face. Jaejoong really did send the human prayers-some of them were in pdf files, the others were in docs, and the rest of them were in handwritings. Needless to say, the room was soon filled with stacks of papers. If it wasn’t because of Jonghyun who had the initiative to burn some of the files, they would’ve been drowned in piles of paper by then. Jaejoong was probably too lazy to convert everything into pdfs and docs.
That bitch, Heechul mentally scoffed. I will block all of his video calls from now on.
“This is really embarrassing!” Hangeng exclaimed as he grabbed some papers, completely losing his cool ‘king’ attitude. “And did I hear this right? Queen Jaejoong has called but only to inform that our kids have been messing around again-“
“It’s not a big deal, Hannie. Besides, it wasn’t just a call. It was a video call.“
“A video freaking call?? And he called you instead of me?? I bet he’s getting even more beautiful by now-“
Jonghyun rolled his eyes as he continued to burn more paper.
“How will he ever realize that I won’t ever mind his protests about our children-okay, Heechul, baby, put the knife down, please-I swear you’re more beautiful than him, I swear!“
Heechul tsk-ed.
Hangeng rubbed the bridge of his nose as he read what was written on the paper in his hand. “More people are wanting to participate in the election? Holy shit that is terrifying!!”
“Hannie, please, it could be anyone-“
“Labor workers are asking for a raise? Shit!”
“It’s not our children-“
“The syndrome of wanting chicken has been increasing!”
“But it could be anything-“
“Chicken pie, chicken roast, chicken patterned underwear???”
“Oh? Is that Onew, then?“
Hangeng gave his wife an incredulous stare before slamming the table with his hand. “Why are you so calm about this? We had an agreement! Did the kids sneak down to earth again?”
“Not that I know of-“
“Of course you didn’t know, baby, because if you knew then it wouldn’t have been called sneaking!” Hangeng groaned and raised a finger in the air. “Jonghyun!! Call all of those not-so-magnificent seven!!”
***
Onew the Glutton listened silently to the roar of his father. Hangeng rarely snapped, but once he did, his voice could be heard throughout the kingdom. Onew crawled back to his seat with a grim expression.
“I told you Father would find out.”
“Excuse me? If it wasn’t because of you and your chicken addiction, glutton, he wouldn’t have,” Amber the Envy retorted, feeling annoyed. “But damn, is it why your hair is getting prettier everyday? You think I should consume more chicken?”
“Shut up, you’re too loud,” Kai the Sloth piped up from the end of the room. “I’m trying to sleep here. Keep your voice to the minimum, please.”
“I want to go back down to earth and meet more people and talk to more people and see more people,” Tao the Greed rubbed his hands in excitement as he turned to his twin, Sehun the Lust. “Surely you would want more people to be affected by us, my twin?”
“Yeah, I want what you want, twin. Whatever.”
“But I am really angry right now,” Baekhyun the Wrath clicked his tongue in dismay. “Is Father going to ban us again from going to the earth? What if he gets really angry at Kris this time? And what if Kris doesn’t want to take us down anymore?”
“You won’t do that, right, Kris?”
The six of them stared at each other in silence. Tao was the first one to get up as he looked around, trying to find their oldest brother, who was nowhere to be found. Sehun pouted at him and Tao shook his head.
“Don’t worry. Didn’t you notice whenever we got on earth in one peace, he was really proud? His pride means everything to him.”
“Yeah, Tao’s right,” Kai added. “Now will you all please shut the hell up? I’m trying to sleep here.”
***
The seven of them were summoned to their Father’s chamber, but none of them dared to look up.
“Do you know why you’re being summoned here?” Hangeng asked calmly. One by one, his children were starting to lift up their chins, staring right at their father. “We have a rule, and you guys break the rule. You know you’re not allowed to sneak down to earth.” Hangeng tried to put on his scariest face to affect his children, but it soon faltered when he heard Kai snored loudly in his seat. He turned to Kris with a head shake. “Kris. As the oldest son, you disappoint me the most.”
Kris kept his gaze down and he continued to stay silent.
“But Father,” Amber braved herself to raise a hand. “You cannot do this to us. We’re not kids anymore, we’re grown-ups. We can do everything we want. And you know for a fact that we’re bored here.”
“But you, my dear, are the children of hell.”
“We know that, Father, but we want to travel the world.”
“I know what you want, but you can’t,” Hangeng took a deep breath as he rapped his fingers on the flat surface of the table. His tone was starting to lace with anger. “Have you forgotten that your presences on earth are affecting the balance? I know you don’t mean harm, but humans are easily affected. And if that happens, the heaven is going to blame us all.”
“That’s because we’re ‘natural human instincts’,” Sehun snorted as he leaned his head on Tao’s shoulder. “Seven sins are horrible? Please.
It’s not a sin to feel lust, as long as it’s with the person you love. You feel it with Mother too, don’t you, Father?”
Hangeng was attacked by the puppy eyes his five children sent him-five, because Kai was still snoring and Kris’ pride was too damn important to act cute-and sighed in resignation. He held up a hand and Amber squealed in response.
“Very well. I will try and negotiate with the Kingdom of Heaven.”
***
If Hangeng was being honest, he really didn’t like facing Yunho, the King of Heaven. It was because Yunho was the opposite of Jaejoong. Yunho seemed to notice Hangeng’s hidden desire for his wife because he screamed when Hangeng’s face appeared in his screen.
“Your children are bothering us! I cannot with 15462716381213 prayers every minute that says please make the sins go away!”
Hangeng’s plan to start the conversation in a nice way disappeared. “Then what can we do? We’ve banned the kids from sneaking down to earth, but they’re just teenagers!”
“You should send me a text before calling me, I’m very busy,” Yunho growled as he gracefully flipped his (very short) hair. “I’m not going to talk to you.”
“If you’re saying that stupid plants vs zombies is what got you busy, then fine. Let the war starts, then!!”
“What is it about a war?” Jaejoong butt in in curiosity, his eyes were staring at at Hangeng. Thank goodness it was just a video call or else the the beautiful male might have seen him melting. With the presence of Jaejoong, the two Kings suddenly reverted into their calm and composed personality.
“He meant the war with the zombies, dear,” Yunho laughed graciously as he motioned to his computer. “Isn’t that right, King Hangeng?”
“That is completely right,” Hangeng laughed back like there was no problem between them. “Anyway, now that you’re here, Queen Jaejoong, I will start talking. My children want to be able to travel down to earth freely.”
Jaejoong pursed his lips. “Freely? But your children are-“
“-the seven sins, I know,” Hangeng finished quickly. “But they’re not...bad. I mean, not in a destructive way. It’s the humans that-oh come on, there must be a solution for us.”
Jaejoong and Yunho exchanged a worried glance.
“There is a way,” Jaejoong said. “But we’re not sure.”
“Please. Let us try.”
“Well,” Jaejoong started hesitantly. “According to the book of Everlasting Friends in Red Ocean That Sometimes Turned Into Shawol and Exotic, it is acceptable.”
“We have that kind of book?” Yunho blinked in astonishment.
“It is said that the seven sins can descend to earth, under one condition,” Jaejoong paused dramatically. “They must be accompanied by the seven holy virtues.”
“Seven...virtues,” Hangeng repeated dumbly. “Where can I find them...?”
Jaejoong glanced down. “They’re our children.”
Hangeng’s mouth formed an ‘o’. Realization dawned upon him as he slowly straightened in his seat, leaning closer to the screen. “I see-wait, you guys have children???”
“End this call now,” Yunho grimaced darkly. “And block him forever.”
“Wait, I mean-I didn’t mean to be rude, but...um, just how exactly will it be then?”
Jaejoong sighed. “We will be kind enough to give them to you, to your children, but only because the earth needs it.”
“I understand.”
“Glad you do. We will come by today then. Our child will be clad in white-hooded robes, and if the fabric is gone by the time your children touch it, then they are allowed to be together.”
***
The seven sins were sitting in the living room while waiting for their parents.
All of them looked up when their father stepped into the room.
It was the first time for them to see Hangeng with a worried expression. Obviously whatever it was on Hangeng’s mind definitely bothering him. Heechul followed closely behind him, looking just as nervous. The King took a long time to bite his nails before finally speaking with a heavy sigh.
“You’re allowed to go to earth.”
The five of them cheered loudly at the news-because Kai was still sleeping, and Kris’ pride was too high to do a dance-and went back silence when their father added,
“Under one condition. You have to go with your virtue.”
“Virtue?” The children said in unison.
“Yes, your virtue. They’re...like your soulmates. You can even get married if you want to. Because they will complete you in any way.”
Onew quickly straightened on his seat, his eyes sparkling with hope. “Soulmate? Get married? Chicken?”
“You glutton kid,” Heechul snapped in annoyance.
“But...how do we meet this...virtues, Father?” Zitao asked in curiosity.
Hangeng and Heechul exchanged meaningful glances.
Heechul chewed on his lower lip in uncertainty. “The Seven Virtues are the children of Heaven, just like you, the children of Hell. Your father had agreed with the King Of Heaven to pair you up with their children. They’re on their way here as we speak. When they arrive, all you have to do is choose one of them.”
“But that is absurd!” Baekhyun protested. “Did you really say Heaven, Mother?”
“Yeah!” Amber nodded vigorously. “We will never be soulmates with them!”
“Silence!” Hangeng said sternly and everyone fell silent. “Do you want to travel freely to earth or what?”
“That is so unfair,” Amber grumbled but she said nothing more.
The family was then blanketed with an uncomfortable silence. The children-still, except for Kai and Kris-murmured to each other with a hushed voice, plotting something. To be honest, Hangeng and Heechul themselves weren’t sure about their own children meeting the seven virtues, but if it was the only solution, then be it.
Heechul reached for Hangeng’s arm all of a sudden, pressing his lips into a thin line at his husband’s confused expression.
“They’re here.”
***
It must’ve been a miracle because when Jaejoong and Yunho arrived, Kai cracked his eyes open.
Kai quickly reached for one of the white-hooded person. Everyone else was just staring dumbly when Kai did so. Magically, the hood went missing and it revealed a beautiful doe-eyed male with milky skin. Both Kai and the male locked their gazes for the longest time, and the sin caught the angelic male’s wrist wordlessly.
“This one is mine,” Kai said softly, eyes never leaving the other male. “What’s your name, beautiful?”
“Do.”
“Do,” Kai repeated smoothly. “You’re mine.”
A squeak was heard somewhere in the room, and Hangeng had a feeling it was Yunho. Nevertheless, the King of Hell held his breath in amazement. Queen Jaejoong was right, but then again, Queen Jaejoong was never wrong (no, he wasn’t being biased of course).
“Very well,” Jaejoong said softly. “You’ve chosen Diligence. How wise. You must be...Sloth?”
“Father, I want him too-“
“Hush, Tao. Kai chose him first.”
Tao made small, displeased mewls but he said nothing more when Onew hastily grabbed another hooded person. All of them watched silently as again, the hood magically disappeared and revealed a really cute girl with long hair.
“H-hi,” Onew squealed. “I-I am Onew?”
“I am Luna,” the virtue said with a kind smile.
“He chose Temperance so I assume he’s Glutton,” Jaejoong muttered quietly to his husband. “Oh heaven. Does it really mean they’re all soulmates...?”
“I cannot say anything but wow at this moment,” Yunho retorted dryly. “So wow.”
One by one, each sin stepped forward to reach for anyone they pleased.
Tao got a virtue named Chen the Charity. Amber thought he was going to get a girl, but he got a boy named Henry instead. She frowned for a moment, because even Henry had more beautiful skin than her, but she shrugged if off. Sehun was completely stunned in his track when Lay introduced himself with a shy smile, and Baekhyun dropped his jaw when the hooded person he chose turned out to be incredibly tall.
So that left Kris-
But wait, there was no one left for Kris.
The four adults in the room glanced around in confusion.
“Is it just six? Tao, are you taking two with you-“
“I swear I did not, Father-“
“But then why does Kris-“
“There are only six,” Heechul frowned as he sent both Yunho and Jaejoong a glare. “Are you joking with us because-“
“I’m sorry I’m late.”
All of a sudden, a voice appeared out of nowhere as another hooded person stepped into the room. Unlike the others whose robes were removed the moment they were touched, his white hood went missing even when no one was reaching out for him. Everyone seemed to be stunned with what lied before their very eyes, because the male was the epitome of perfection, of how an angel was described. He had such beautiful, flawless, and fairest skin, also ultimate kindness radiating from him.
“M-Mother...?” He squeaked as he reached out for his hair. “My-my hood...?”
“It’s okay, sweetheart. He’s here for your oldest son, Pride,” Jaejoong turned as he informed Hangeng. “His name is Suho.”
“Suho,” everyone dumbly repeated.
“Humility, and the Guardian.”
“Um...”
Suho stood by himself in the middle of the room, a bit confused why his supposed-to-be-soulmate didn’t reach out for him. His eyes shifted to his other siblings questioningly, one by one, who were already standing side by side with their ‘soulmates’.
Until he laid his eyes on Kris.
Something beat instantly in his chest without permission. Kris was staring so intently at him that Suho felt like squirming away and hide. Suddenly, he felt so weak, his hands were beginning to tremble, his cheeks were flushing and his head was spinning. Kris kept on examining him, and neither of them wanted to stop staring-
“Suho.”
-until Yunho’s voice made Suho look away.
“Yes, Father?”
“Take care of yourself and your brothers,” Yunho said, pulling him into tight a hug. There was a sadness laced lightly underneath his tone when he kissed Suho’s forehead. “I know this is new to you, but you have to stay strong. This is for the best.”
“I know, Father,” Suho replied firmly. “I’m ready, and we’ve talked about this...”
“Very well, then,” Yunho gently pulled away from his son and patted Suho’s head. Hangeng and Heechul then approached him and Jaejoong, and the four of them were engaged in a hushed conversation.
Suho turned his head to stare at Kris, but the latter was nowhere to be found. He frowned in confusion. Where did he go...?
“You shouldn’t have looked away first.”
Suho turned around abruptly with a soft gasp. The voice startled him, but it wasn’t Kris. His heart sank at the fact but he didn’t show it. “And you are...?”
“I’m Greed, but you can call me Tao,” the sin kindly introduced himself as he stepped closer to Suho in curiosity, examining the Humility. “Can I call you Suho?”
“Yes, you can.”
“By the way, Kris hates it when anyone does that,” Sehun piped up as he followed his twin’s movement. “Tao’s right, you shouldn’t have looked away first.”
“But...but why?”
“Why? Because he is Pride, that’s why,” Tao smirked knowingly. “But don’t worry, if he doesn’t want you, I can definitely have two-“
Tao ouch-ed when one of Heechul’s shoes landed on his head.
***
Suho would’ve never thought that Kris would avoid him simply because he looked away first.
It came like a slap to his cheek because come on, he did nothing wrong! But then again, Kris was Pride, and his pride was everything to him. After a few days, Suho finally gave up and accepted the fact.
The first week was torturing for Suho because Kris was rarely around, but it was the other way around for the others.
Everyone seemed happy with their couple, especially Kai.
Angels were supposed to get married with another angel in order to produce great heirs. Not that the marriage with demons wasn't allowed, but none of the angels really favored the idea of marrying demons. It somehow felt...wrong.
Until Hangeng’s marriage with Heechul happened.
Which was shocking, because even though he was an angel, Heechul really looked like he was a demon before he married Hangeng. But like they said, love worked in a mysterious way, and why did Hangeng fall for Heechul was still a mystery. No one ever really found out why.
All of the angels were given code names. No matter how peaceful it was, there were still some demons wanting to ruin the balance between them and knowing the angel’s real name was one way to control them. The code names were designed to prevent it from happening. Once the angel fell in love, it was hard to deny it. Their eyes would sparkle with emotions that only their closest ones would know, and right now, Suho witnessed those sparkles within Lay and Do’s orbs.
Suho overheard Kai calling his brother Do with his real name, Kyungsoo, which meant that Kyungsoo really had given his heart away to the tan male. Considering the short amount of time they had spent, it was probably rushing, but if it was Kyungsoo’s decision, then be it. Suho could only smile and prayed for them to be happy.
It was a bit hard for Lay to be close to Sehun, because Sehun and Tao were always together-as expected from a twin-but slowly, Sehun was beginning to spend more of his time with Lay. The way Sehun gazed at Lay was endearing, but of course, Suho had always thought that Lay was the most beautiful one of them all. His brother had something that angels rarely had, which was dimples on his cheeks that showed only when he smiled.
Suho didn’t take a long time to realize that his siblings were starting to be with their ‘soulmates’ the whole time. They were all starting to form something invisible but yet deep enough. Both parties completed each other. Suho also witnessed how Amber didn’t feel so envious anymore whenever he was with Henry, which was a good thing. Or how rare it was nowadays to see Kai sleeping in the corner of a room because there was Do by his side. Or how Baekhyun managed to be more calm and composed now that Chanyeol was by his side. Or even how Onew went on a chicken diet because Luna turned out to be a vegetarian.
Suho was happy for his brothers and sister.
He really was.
But not really for himself.
It had been a few days since he stayed in the Hell Castle, and Suho was still sleeping alone.
The rest of his brothers-and sister-were already getting to know each other better, but Kris was still nowhere to be found. Suho sighed heavily as he placed a hand on his throat. The air in the Hell Castle was a bit poisonous for him and the other virtues, but Jaejoong said they would be all right, as long as their ‘soulmates’ were with them. It seemed true enough, because the others didn’t seem to have any trouble breathing.
But where the hell was Kris?
“Yo. Suho, right?”
Suho looked up in surprise and his eyes rested on the tomboy girl before him. Envy, he absently thought to himself. “Yes? You are...Amber, right?”
“Ugh, you have such a pretty face,” Amber groaned and she face-palmed in exasperation. “Why do you have such a pretty face?”
“I’m-I’m sorry?”
“Why do you have to be sorry?” Amber rolled her eyes and put her hands on her hips. “I envy your good looks. However, I don’t envy your fate to be with my brother.”
Suho fell silent.
“Pride,” Amber took a seat across Suho and eyed him in a serious manner. “He’s always been a silent one. Even if we’re siblings, we don’t really know what’s on his mind. And he’s so hard to control. Even Father is lost of what to do with Kris at times. But what can you do when you’re Lucifer’s descendant, right? Anyone would want him to take over the world.”
“Kris,” Suho said slowly. “Where is he....now?”
“Beats me,” Amber shrugged. “He’s somewhere in the castle.”
“I see. He’s in the castle, but he doesn’t want to be near me... Is it wrong if I want to talk to him...?” Suho said sadly, but it was more to himself than to Amber. “It’s been a while since I lived here and he’s still...not around.”
“I guess it’s natural for you to want to talk to him since he’s your other half,” Amber’s eyes softened. She leaned closer as she tilted her head to one side, gazing solemnly at Suho. “Damn.”
“What is it?”
“Why do you have really beautiful eyelashes?”
***
Suho decided that if Kris wouldn’t make the first move because his pride was everything to him, then he would.
The virtue braved himself to enter Kris’ room. He had been waiting for some time in the sin’s room-to establish even the slightest conversation when the taller male got back-but even until he fell asleep, Kris hadn’t returned.
Suho woke up with an unfamiliar scent on him. He inhaled deeply, liking how the scent lingered on him before opening his eyes. Suho blinked rapidly for a moment, noticing Kris’ robe over him before breaking into a fond smile.
Maybe Kris wasn’t as cold as he looked...
“Are you awake?”
Suho quickly pulled himself into a sitting position at the deep voice.
Kris was there across the room in his chair with a book on his lap. The view somehow calmed Suho, but at the same time made him nervous. Suho felt the heat creeping to his cheeks and he tried to reply something appropriate, but the air somewhat affected him and he coughed. It got Kris to rise from his seat and rushed over to him, and Suho thought he almost died when Kris grabbed his hand.
“Are you okay?”
Suho was sure his face was flaming right now. It felt extremely hot. “Y-yes...”
“It must be the air,” Kris said calmly. “It’s different than the air in Heaven. Don’t worry. You’re going to be all right now.”
“Yes...thank you,” Suho answered and bowed his head slightly. Which was probably unnecessary. But it was Pride that he was facing, and he just didn’t want the sin to run away from him anymore. Because they were meant to be...right? “Um, I’m sorry...”
Kris merely stared. “What for?”
“For...looking away first that day.”
“Oh. You only did that because your father called you.”
A small smile graced Suho’s lips upon hearing Kris’ reaction. So he did understand. His heart was beating so fast at how close they were, but he liked the feeling. It was the first time for him to ever experience something like this. Suho casually glanced down and couldn’t help but feeling happy at their interlocked hands. Kris’ hand was big compared to his, but it was meant that way.
His mother was right. With Kris by his side, Suho felt better already.
“Kris...?”
“Hm?”
“Can I stay with you...?”
Suho didn’t know what would it take to make Kris initiated things first. But Suho was a bit desperate to have Kris by his side, and he would do anything to make Kris stay. It was why he was brought there in the first place, right...? To be with Kris...?
Kris said nothing for the longest time but to stare at Suho. Suho bit his lower lip unsurely, wondering if it was wrong for him to say it, but then Kris nodded firmly.
“Sure.”
Suho’s heart almost exploded when Kris leaned closer to him.
***
Kris still went missing to heaven-knew-where like he used to, but at least he always came back whenever Suho had trouble breathing.
It made Suho happy that Kris actually cared about him.
Suho didn’t really mind that they didn’t touch at all. Sometimes all they did was read books, enjoying each other’s presence, but it meant a lot to Suho. Suho liked to stare at Kris, and he liked it even more when Kris caught his gaze, making his heart flutter badly.
“Suho, Suho, come here.”
Suho glanced over his shoulder questioningly. The other sins were hiding behind a pillar, beckoning him to come closer. All of them looked so serious that Suho almost didn’t have the heart to decline.
“What is it...?”
Baekhyun jerked his thumb at a direction. “If you’re going to marry Kris, you should at least know this. Look.”
Suho followed the other’s line of sight curiously. He saw Kris standing in front of a mirror, gazing intensely at his own reflection. “Oh. Um...”
“Are you okay with this?” Onew looked concerned.
“Um, I don’t see what’s wrong...”
“He spends at least a few hours to stare at himself in the mirror,” Tao snorted. “He loves himself too much. I hope you’re okay with it.”
Suho was clearly amused. He bit back a smile as he nodded. As expected from Pride.
“Sometimes he even talks to the mirror.”
“Does the mirror talk back?” Amber asked.
“Of course not, silly,” Sehun rolled his eyes. “...he asks a question and then he answers himself.”
Suho couldn’t hold it anymore and he burst out giggling underneath his palm. The rest of the sins gave him judging looks, but Suho kept on giggling.
“You’re so going to marry that guy,” Sehun deadpanned.
“Oh yes, I would,” Suho said, trying his best to suppress his giggle but failed. “I would...”
“Dammit, you’re even weirder than our Mother.”
***
It didn’t take them a long time to get closer.
Everyday, Suho got to learn the small things about Kris and he loved it.
Kris was starting to talk a lot to him too, sometimes not minding his pride, and Suho felt glad that at least his presence affected Kris in a good way.
But still, they were different compared to the other couple.
Suho wanted to descend to earth too to try like his other siblings-because Sehun and Tao had talked about it the other day-but Kris didn’t seem to like the idea. Judging from the twins’ stories, they really didn’t affect the humans if they were with their virtues, which meant that Kris would be okay if he went to earth with Suho.
They also didn’t hold hands and touch as much as the others did, and after a week, it saddened Suho. Not that he wanted Kris to touch him twenty-four seven, but it was just...there was this strange feeling whenever their skins touched and Suho was addicted to it.
Besides, it was all right if they did, right? Because they were soulmates...?
Soulmates.
One day, Kai announced that he and Do were getting married, and Suho’s heart dropped at that. The decision made everyone happy, including their parents. He tried to be as cheerful as the others, but with a swift glance, everyone knew that he wasn’t. It was natural for him to feel that way because Suho was the oldest from the seven virtues, and he should be the one to get married first. But it would be selfish for him to voice out his thought, because he could tell that Kai was really happy with his brother, and no one could tear them apart.
Suho needed to see Kris. He just wanted to feel better. And being with Kris gave him all that... Suho had no idea where Kris was, but before he even got the chance to look for the male, Amber called out his name.
“Suho, you have a visitor. And damn, he is so handsome! Why do you always get the handsome guys?”
“A visitor for me? But who...?”
“Hey, Suho.”
Suho visibly stiffened when his visitor showed up behind Amber. “H-Hongbin...”
Hongbin smiled kindly as he approached Suho. Suho placed a hand over his chest. It surprised him because it had been a while since he and Hongbin met and of all places, he didn’t think Hongbin would follow him here. Amber excused herself and walked away from them, grumbling not so subtly something along the lines of how envious she was of Suho. When Amber was out of their eyesight, Suho dared himself to speak.
“Hongbin, what are you doing here? You shouldn’t have come here, the air-”
“I've come to take you away.”
Suho froze. “Wh-what...?”
Hongbin’s expression dimmed. “You shouldn’t be here, Suho. You should be with me...in Heaven. I knew it was a mistake to let you go. I’ve come to take back what’s mine.”
Suho swallowed thickly as he took a step back. “I...I can’t. You know I’ve always considered you as my friend...”
“It’s enough,” Hongbin said, a bit desperately. “It’s enough, as long as you’re with me.”
“I’m-I’m getting married,” Suho shook his head. He wasn’t supposed to lie, but he didn’t see any other option. “I can’t go back...”
“You don’t want to marry a demon, trust me.”
“But-but it’s all for the sake of the balance-“
“The sake of the balance?” Hongbin looked angry. “What kind of reason is that? Just because they need you to go down to earth doesn’t mean that you should obey. You know it, and you also know that it’s not going to work, Suho.”
“I know that,” Suho cried out in frustration. “I know it’s a selfish reason for my parents to bring me here just because these sins need us to descend to earth for balance. But...but I might have fallen in love with him...”
“You’ve fallen in love...with Pride...?”
Suho nodded hopelessly. “I do. I love him so much, Hongbin... Even if he doesn’t love me back...”
Hongbin curled his hands into a fist. “If you know that, marry me instead, Suho. You'll be happier with me.”
Suho gazed at Hongbin disbelievingly. It bothered him slightly, because the Hongbin he knew in Heaven back then wasn’t stubborn like this. No words were said, but Suho’s expression must’ve showed it because Hongbin sighed in defeat after that.
“Very well. I will retreat for now, but if he doesn’t treat you well...then I should come again to take you with me.”
Hongbin leaned forward to kiss Suho, but the latter managed to take a step back before it happened.
“What are you-“ Suho's eyes widened in shock. “Don’t!”
“Your Pride’s nowhere to be seen,” Hongbin growled in irritation. “That just makes me angrier. If he really loves you, he’ll always be there for you, Junmyeon.”
Suho's shoulders flinched at his real name. He knew Hongbin was right, but still, it wasn’t right for the latter to kiss him in the first place. His friend then turned around in obvious wrath to exit the castle, and Suho just stood there wordlessly, watching Hongbin retreated. His feelings were a mess, and he felt like crying.
Without him realizing it, Kris was there staring at the whole scene. The sin witnessed this from afar, completely misunderstanding everything and walked away.

Kris went missing for days.
It was nothing new, but with Kris’ disappearance, Suho’s coughing was getting worse each day.
He needed Kris to be able to breathe normally, but Kris was nowhere to be found.
Suho waited for him by the sin’s bedroom, but Kris never returned. The other sins noticed this, but there was nothing they could do. Once Kris was stubborn about something, then no one would be able to change his mind. Suho gasped for air as he laid weakly on Kris’ bed. The familiar scent calmed him for a moment.
Where are you, Kris...?
Suho’s chest tightened at the thought. If Kris didn’t come back, could he lose his life...? The virtue closed his eyes in fear.
What should I do, Mother...?
“Kris...”
“What?”
Suho almost screamed when Kris was suddenly beside him on the bed. The virtue wanted to scold the sin for missing for days and showered him with all the protests he could make, but the sight of Kris made him feel relieved. Suho’s eyes became teary and he got up, pulling Kris into an embrace.
The sin flinched slightly at the sudden hug, but he did nothing to pull away.
“Kris...”
Kris didn’t reply.
“My real name...is Junmyeon.”
I want to be with you so badly, Kris.
“Call me...by my real name.”
Unexpectedly, Kris pushed Suho away from him. Suho gasped and he felt completely taken aback at the sudden rejection. A great dislike and anger were chiseled on Kris’ handsome face, and Suho felt scared upon seeing his expressions.
“Kris...?”
Did I do something wrong...?
“Just go back to heaven, Suho,” Kris said coldly. “You don’t belong here.”
“Wh-what?”
“Don’t act so surprised. I saw that angel was about to kiss you. Isn’t he a better option for you, unlike me?”
“B-but he’s-“
“Just go back. You don’t belong here. We don’t belong together.”
Kris didn’t bother to wait for any reply and with that, he dashed out of the room.
Suho didn’t stop coughing.

The Queen of Heaven came right away without hesitation when Suho called him. He was panicked because all he could hear was sobbing and Suho had never cried in his life before. Jaejoong’s heart broke upon seeing his beautiful son curled weakly on the bed, crying into the pillow.
“Suho? What happened...?”
“Mother...?” Suho got up and hastily ran into his mother’s arms for comfort. He wailed helplessly. “Take me home, please. I want to go home, Mother... I don’t belong here...”
“Don’t be silly, sweetheart, you belong here-“
“No, I don’t... Kris doesn’t want me, he told me to go home...”
“He what??”
“Hongbin came here the other day, Mother,” Suho lamented. “He asked me to marry him, but I turned him down... And then he tried to kiss me, but I didn't let it happen, and I swear that I have nothing towards him, I swear, Mother... Kris witnessed all this, I tried to explain, but Kris wouldn’t even listen to me... He told me that Hongbin is a better option and that I should leave...”
Suho glanced up sadly. Tears were still streaming down his cheeks as he spoke,
“Maybe I should leave, Mother... I want to go back to Heaven...”
Jaejoong was so angry at that. He stormed out of Suho’s bedroom, looking for Kris. Jaejoong was so angry that he ignored Heechul’s confused greeting in the hallway. Fortunately, Kris appeared before him and Jaejoong quickly shoved the sin against the wall, raising a finger to him.
“You’re so damn lucky to have my son, bastard,” Jaejoong seethed. “And your pride is still everything to you. Can’t you see that my son is head over heels for you? And how did you treat him? Did you even treat him well? If I knew you were just going to hurt him, I would’ve agreed to let him marry that Hongbin boy. Compared to you, he’s much worth it because he’s an angel, and he has manners.” Jaejoong snorted. “Balance my ass. I should’ve never let Suho come here in the first place.”
“What is this??” Heechul asked in confusion. “Queen Jae, what are you doing to my son?”
“I’m sorry, Queen Hee,” Jaejoong retorted coolly as he let Kris go. “But I’m gonna have to take Suho back to Heaven with me. Apparently your son doesn’t want to be with my son, so before he hurts him more, I will take him back.”

“Kris is stupid,” Tao grumbled. “And now Suho’s going back to Heaven.”
The other sins murmured in agreement.
“Treating your other half like that...who does he think will love him other than Suho?”
“I usually would agree with whatever it is that you say because we’re twins, but that’s a cruel thing to say,” Sehun commented.
“But it’s true! Suho is Humility, right? Who would be able to stand Pride if it’s not him?”
“Tao has a point,” Kai mumbled sleepily from the end of the room. “Now if we’re done, I need to go back to Kyungsoo.”
“Of course I have a point, because I knew it. What if Suho was meant to be with me after all? I should’ve convinced Mother that having two virtues isn’t a bad thing-OUCH SEHUN WHY ARE YOU PUNCHING ME??”

When it was finally the day for Suho to go back to Heaven, his mother sent Hongbin to fetch him.
Suho didn’t know why it had to be Hongbin of all people, but he was just too sad to think of a reason. His siblings took turns to give him a tight hug, each of them whispered that they wished Suho didn’t have to go back. Suho could only put on a smile. He was sad to leave all of them, especially with the fact that Kris wasn’t there.
“We’re really sorry,” Hangeng apologized sincerely to Suho. “Still, we would love it if you would stay.”
Suho gently shook his head. “My other half doesn’t want to be with me. There’s no point of me in staying.”
“Suho, we should leave,” Hongbin’s words snapped Suho back to reality. "The air's getting to us."
“Yes.” Suho’s eyes were turning into two beautiful crescents as he smiled at everyone, but there were obvious tears in them. “Goodbye, everyone.”
“JUNMYEON! DON’T LEAVE ME! I’M IN LOVE WITH YOU!”
Suho was about to take Hongbin’s hand when he heard Kris screaming somewhere from above. The virtue felt weak instantly because Kris was calling his real name. “Kris...?” He glanced up and spotted the sin immediately. Kris was at the second floor, breathless from all the running, and Suho withdrew his hand from Hongbin. Hope was starting to bloom within him. “Kris!"
"Took him long enough," Hangeng grunted loudly.
"Hongbin, I’m sorry, I need to go-“
“Suho, are you sure?” Hongbin said in disbelief and pointed upward. “With that man?”
“PLEASE DON’T LEAVE ME I SWEAR I WILL CHANGE I WILL TRY-“
Suho sighed desperately as he clutched his chest. “Yes, with him, it can only be with him-“
“ISN’T THAT WHY YOU’RE HERE? TO STOP ME FROM BEING SO PRIDEFUL AND ARROGANT?”
“Suho, I’m going to ask you one more time, with him???”
“TO SPEND THE REST OF YOUR LIFE WITH ME? TO TEACH ME YOUR HUMILITY?”
“Yes, Hongbin, yes!!”
“BECAUSE YOU ARE MEANT TO BE WITH ME-“
“Suho, you’ve got to be kidding me! That man is talking to a mirror!!!”
Suho burst out crying. “He can’t help it, he loves himself too much! It’s a habit but I love him for that! I’m sorry, Hongbin...I really need to go!”
Suho then took the opportunity to rush to Kris’ side. Without thinking, the virtue reached for Kris’ shoulders and pressed their lips together. Kris immediately fell kissed back and Suho felt like bursting into bubbles of happiness. What Suho felt was indescribable. All he could think was finally, finally they could kiss each other.
Kris was the first one to pull away from their longing kisses, and Suho’s eyes were filled with tears as he whispered,
“I kissed you first...can’t you throw your dignity away just for this once to admit that you love me?”
Kris shook his head as he grasped Suho’s chin. He simply pressed their foreheads together.
“My pride is in your hand...”
Suho shut his eyes by instinct when Kris leaned forward to kiss him again.
“I’m in love with you, Junmyeon, and it’s just as easy as that...”
End.
I have no idea for the snippets I'm sorry
