Having a truly appalling memory is often a bad thing. Like, for instance, when it means I head off to cross an international border and forget to bring my passport (that mistake cost me nearly $300), or when I can't remember someone's name even after I've not only been introduced to them twice, but also had dinner at their house (seriously - total blank), or when I leave the oven on for 4 hours on an already hot summer day and can't figure out why the a/c isn't doing its job.
But occasionally having a sieve where normal people have dorsolateral and ipsolateral prefrontal cortex is very handy. It means I can reread the same 10 or 12 Agatha Christie books every single year without ever remembering who dun it. And I've just discovered this week that it means I can watch Season 3 of AtS for the first time in a couple years and remember almost nothing of what actually happens in any given episode. These being episodes of television I watched over and over again, dozens of times in a few cases. Episodes I obsessed over, both alone and online with some of you. I've not only read gazillions of fanfics inspired by these stories, I've even written a few myself. I remember the big plot points of course - Darla is pregnant, Cordy becomes part demon, Wes makes a very, very bad decision and no one is ever happy ever again. But pretty much everything else is gone. This should probably worry me, but frankly it's kind of fun. When Angel lured all the Connor-hunters to the mine and blew them up I was totally taken in by the ruse. Which, ok, gullible=me, but I enjoyed myself.
In completely unrelated news, I am down to my last 15 days here. I'm on schedule for the move, but there's still A LOT to be done (which is, of course, why I am watching 4 episodes of AtS a day - it's all part of the plan*). I have to generate an itemized list of everything I am bringing into Canada, complete with estimated dollar values. That's gonna be tedious. I also have to consume all my booze before I go - I'm only allowed to bring 1.5 liters of alcohol across the border without paying duty. As you can imagine, this is one of the nicer items on my to do list. :-)
My mum should be coming down this weekend and then we'll really switch into full on moving mode. I will be very glad when this is all over.
* The real reason I'm suddenly obsessed with watching lots of AtS is that I'm too much of a fraidy cat to watch the last two episodes of Doctor Who, which I know will break my heart into teeny little pieces. So I'm revisiting old fictional agonies rather than face new ones. It's a very clever strategy. Really.
well alright then
