The OED word of the day almost always cracks me up. The word today is whelk. Already kind of funny, right? I mean it's hard to think of a situation where you'd really need to be able to talk about whelks. But then I scroll down to the various adjunct entries (obsolete uses, compounds and the like) and find: to be unable to run a whelk stall: an ( Read more... )

my favorite summer salad is argula with mandarin oranges, chopped walnuts and blue or mozarella cheese, and a raspberry vinagrette. i would eat it every day except that frequently we're out of oranges.

Mmm. That sounds very good. I never buy arugula for some reason. Thanks, sweetie.

i am just a big fan of fruit and nuts in salads. fresh raspberries are good, too, but only with exactly the right dressing. something light and vinegar-y.

linney, i am so tired this morning and i so much want to be finished with my job. *naps on you*

fruit & nuts in any combo is good by me.

*nods*

I'm so sorry, kitten. How many weeks have you got to go? Is it to early to start counting down the days?

*hugs you and tries to make the time pass quicker*

Hey, so I just realized you probably have an apartment in Chapel Hill now. Do you?

i have ... all of june and all of july to go. but! of the eight weeks left, i only have to work full five day weeks in ... two of them, i think. plus i still have a little vacation left and i could take that down to only one. so that's something, right?

I DO HAVE AN APARTMENT! i don't know my address yet because the office manager hasn't gotten back to me (thank you for reminding me that i need to call her tomorrow, actually), but it is a lovely apartment. with a balcony, and a big kitchen with a dishwasher, and a washer and drier IN MY APARTMENT, and it is right across the street from a grocery store and a post office and a liquor store! plus i can ride my bike to campus from it, so that is excellent, and everyone should come visit me next year. chapel hill and carrboro are pretty cool towns.

That is totally something. 8 weeks is still probably 4 weeks too long for your sanity. But hooray for long weekends and vac days and the general tempus fugit-ness of life.

Your apartment sounds fabulous. Washer & Dryer in situ!!! YAYE!!! When I thought I was going to have to move this summer I looked at a few places with laundry rooms, rather than in flat facilities, and I almost cried at the thought. I will totally come and visit for I have never been to Chapel Hill and I will miss you something fierce when you are gone.

you must come to chapel hill in april or late september, as that is when everything is sunny and beautiful but not yet too hot. september in north carolina is one of my favorite things in the entire world, and i get to spend all of it there this year!

I won't be able to come this fall. I'm teaching for the first time and I expect that's going to consume my life. But next spring would be lovely (even if it is awfully far away). I'm so glad you're moving somewhere you already love - that's so great.
