Gackt - Black Stone Righty, another update. Not particularly interesting, computer-related ramblings, but for those of you who might care...
I might be getting my own computer in my room!
The music department at school are getting new computers, much like the rest of the school, so they're selling off the old ones. Which are actually pretty decent! I don't know how much space they have on the hard drive, but they're running on windows XP with loads of programs, including Sibelius ((Being music computers they would have it, but it's really expensive to buy normally)) installed already. So I could get hold of one of those for £80, which would include a monitor so long as Mr Taylor can find one. Oh yes, he's just as organised as usual. >.> All I'd have to do then is get myself a keyboard, either find out if there are any spare ones at school ((Talking to the people who work in the network office is helpful)) or just buying one, and also a mouse - we've got some spares sitting around at home, so long as I don't mind one that's not too great.
The next problem would be internet. Because, being me, I'd absolutely love to have the 'net in my room, it would also solve the problems there are with the shared computer, ie. lots of people wanting to use it at the same time. I've been researching wireless networking, because it would be impossible to have my own network connection in my room, and have figured out what you need for it ((Wireless Access Point Router...thingy, and Wireless Network Card or USB Adaptor)) and how much they would cost ((Between £56 for 54mbps stuff and £75 for 100mbps stuff from play.com)). Soooo, now I just need to persuade the parents - well, my mum likes the idea, it would just be my dad - to let me do it! For this I need to tidy my bedroom, otherwise there's no way I could have a computer in there, and I also need to find out more stuff about it from school tomorrow.
Also, I wouldn't be paying for everything, if anything, myself - my mum thinks it's a great idea because of the arguments over use of the computer at the moment, plus it'd only be £150 tops for the whole lot. Oh, and she also mentioned putting the old computer onto the network, so I need to find out whether that would be possible or not. It's a reaaaaally old computer, and is running on windows 95. So the PCI network cards that I've been looking at wouldn't work in it, for a start there might not be anywhere to put one and then they say that the minimum OS required is windows 98. Although, if there is a space for one then we could try installing windows XP onto that computer, but it might not be able to cope with it, being so old n' all. Either that, or we could look at getting a USB adaptor, which don't seem to have a minimum OS that I can find - the only problem is that the computer doesn't even have a USB port, so we'd have to find out what ports it does have a buy an adaptor thingy for it. Which could work.
Whee, I hope this goes well! Having my own computer and the 'net in my room would be fantastic. XD
