Because of the retcon and my way of playing changing, I decided to re-write the Philippines' profile.
Nation's Name: Republika ng Pilipinas (Republic of the Philippines)
Capital: Manila
Language: Filipino (Tagalog*), English
Birthday (Independence Day): June 12th
National flower: Arabian Jasmine (Sampaguita)
Human name: Isobella "Bing" Matapang (y de la Cruz)
Height: 150cm (approx. 4ft 11)
Age: 17 in appearance
Appearance: Short, tanned and curved with pudge building from always eating. Originally more straight and black, her hair has gotten wavy from Western exposure and dyed more to a brown as one of her few girlier habits. Because of all the jobs she does, several of them in the field, and from all her surfing when she has time to herself, the Philippines has darker skin than human women of her home, no matter what skin whiteners she tries to use. She began wearing glasses in the late 19th century, and has an ahoge similar to N. Italy's that she clips back with her bangs.
Personality: The mischievous, tomboyish Ate (big sister), Bing is curious, bossy, sassy, but nurturing and hospitable. A lately corrupt system has made her somewhat manipulative and greedy, but she generally means well. She's a little begrudging, even to those she's long since forgiven (particularly with Spain and America). The Philippine's is hardworking, but careless and often oblivious to her own actions. She likes romance and drama and really wants "special relations" of her own (particularly with America, who she not-so-secretly idolizes, although she knows him to be pretty dense), but she's pretty oblivious to anyone having romantic interest in her unless they're being lewd. She's also a very pious Catholic, not even legalizing divorce, and is very superstitious. Like Norway and England, she has some magical companions and can see fairies, though hers are quite different from the tiny pixies that befriend the European nations.
Hobbies: cooking, surfing, dancing, gardening, making money, shoe shopping
Weapons: Barong, slingshot (particularly as a child), MSSR, butterfly knives (she typically has one on her at all times), arnis sticks
Relations:
the Doc- Dr. José Rizal, her national hero. A lot of her more modern thinking was taught to her by the Doc, and he urged her to be more independent and ask for Spain to recognize her as a provence and not a colony. Spain took this the wrong way and believed him to be manipulating Bing against him, urging her to revolt. The Doc didn't actually want her to split from her father until tension thickened and was executed by the Spanish officials and clergy.
Brothers- the Philippines has three brothers; her twin brother Luzon (Juanelo/Jun), Visayas (Raymond) and Mindanao (Marco). She and Luzon have a lot of banter, often over who should be in charge of the family (Luzon keeps insisting he's the eldest). Mindanao keeps physically fighting with her due to their religious differences. Visayas tends to give her the least trouble. Still, the Philippines is very big on her family and, for allthe infighting, loves her siblings dearly.
America- From the end of the 19th century to the end of WWII, the Philippines had been in a commonwealth with America, and while their relationship was rough in the beginning, the nation was her idol in pubescence which grew into love-interest as she got more mature as her own nation. She does still have her troubles with him, though, and tries to hide her crush out of embarrassment, as they were also enemies when she was young.
Spain- Her estranged father. As a child/colony, she doted greatly on Spain, often doing all she could to please him in hopes of seeing him on the next ship from his home to visit. She didn't really like to pay attention to the governors he sent, though, and tended to stick to her old ways as much as possible when he wasn't around. Spain taught her many things, though, from music and dancing to religion and Western culture, shaping her unique culture. His little "pearl of the orient" was getting more head-strong, though, and when he tried to reign in his control of her after a bit of absence, she rebelled and the issue escalated into a revolution. She stayed bitter with him when he sold her house to America behind her back, but has reconciled with him after his civil war. He's been trying to convince her to speak Spanish again, but she sternly refuses, even pointedly calling him "Daddy" instead of his preferred "Papa".
Vietnam- the Philippines' next-door neighbor. She's increased relations with Vietnam ever since the end of the Vietnam War, to the point where she treats Vietnam like a loved cousin. They have an agreement on protecting the Spratly Islands and the South China sea from further advancements from China, though they both want the islands as a whole for themselves.
Japan- The northern neighbor. They’re kind of awkward friends, though friends none the less. The Philippines is talkative and careless about her words while Japan isn’t, and she loves to talk about romantic situations while Japan is rather bashful about them in any context. She does enjoy his presence, though, despite of what happened during WWII, and rather enjoys his pop culture and anime.
South Korea- The annoying neighbor. She likes him; she really does. She just wants him to stop dropping by without warning and get out of her house when he’s overstayed his welcome. She loves the K-dramas and music, though.
China- Yao. As a tour guide once put to the mun; She loves the silks. She loves the chinaware. She loves the gunpowder. But she doesn’t really love him. They’ve had good trading communications in the past and a lot of her mestizos are actually Chinese, not Spanish. However, she’s still sore about the communists, is wary of him taking the Spratly Islands and constantly catches him fishing in her waters without permission. She’s also not happy about what he let Hong Kong call her in that one news paper.
France- Being Spain's brother, the Philippines calls him her "Tito" (uncle). France actually influenced her quite a bit, his first revolution inspiring her nationalism and later her own revolutionary ideals via the works of Hugo, which had a bit of influence on the Doc. Today, there are quite a few French living in her capital, which strengthens her relations with her uncle.
England- She’s not largely acquainted with him, but he did try to take over her place when she was a kid by having his pirates kidnap Spain as he was on his way to visit. He succeeded in taking her capital, but couldn’t take the whole of her home. She occasionally calls him, “the babysitter”, which is what Spain tried to tell her he was when he finally made it to her house and kick out England. She does also work at England’s place on occasion, usually as a nurse.
Russia- She finds him just as creepy as everyone else. However, she does have ok political ties with him, as he’s offered to become a major oil supplier and to build an oil refinery and storage center for her so she can give her ASEAN neighbors better access to oil. She’s often also called by him to help take care of child citizens.
