After talking with his mother, Florence has been spending more time out and about the Mansion. He'll talk to anyone who notices him -- small, serious, soft-spoken young man that he is -- and he spends some time lending a hand with the hunting-and-gathering; but mostly he watches, and doesn't head back home to the Orkney cottage until sunset.

Gawain is leaning on the gate when he does come, watching the glow fade from the trees.

Florence comes up quietly, pausing a little distance along the fence, not to disturb him if he's preoccupied, not to avoid him either.

Gawain smiles across the distance at him. "Hello, you."

He smiles back, straightening up a little. "Hello."

"What kept you out so close to dusk?" he asks, genuinely curious, not a hint of a reprimand, "It's not a pleasant road at night - Interesting conversation?" Merry smile.

"Something like," Florence says easily. He's not quite sure he ought to explain that he's essentially been collecting gossip for Ragnelle.

"Well, that's good. I'm glad."

Gawain has no objection to Ragnelle collecting gossip through any means she considers neccesary. The habit's saved his hide a few times.

"Well enough." And a little diffidently: "Is my mother better?"

Gawain lights up. "Florence! It's absurd of me, but when your mother said you'd made it, I was still picturing someone smaller - here." And he steps forward with his arms open for a hug.

--oh. Oh. Well, that's disturbing and yet strangely amusing. Florence hugs him readily.

Yay! Progeny hugs! Gawain holds him out at arm's length and beams at him. "Look at you!" he says, "Such a fine young man."

He laughs, ducking his head. "So my mother says."

"My lady wife is always right," Gawain informs him, with a grin. "One ought not doubt her."
