John Hirsch would be fantastic here [WRATH]

Caleb'd lost track of Selene and Grif somewhere in the middle of the party, and when he heard and saw exactly what was going on, he made a break for it. His first priorities weren't staying with a group; his first priorities were to find his girlfriend (Selene) and the person who probably had the most guns (Grif). (Not that these really needed ( Read more... )

Unfortunately, the person who is approaching isn't either of the people Caleb is seeking. In fact, it's probably the least expected person to show up in this crazy mess. Mia, for the most part, has been a silent observer to this entire ordeal, favoring the whole sneaky mentor over making a scene.

Of course, she's not about to let Caleb get eaten or mauled by a bear, so the first course of action is to give him the distraction he so desires. While hiding behind a nearby tree, she picks up a decent sized rock and throws it at a patch of grass a good distance away. Hopefully, the rattling noise will give him the necessary time to react or counterattack.

The dire bear's attention is diverted towards the rock for a fraction of a second (it's a rather large fraction, though), and that's all the time Caleb needs. Normally, when fighting dire bears (with other people), the idea is 'someone else distract it while Caleb stabs it in the face ( ... )

Mia, meanwhile, is actually watching Caleb's wonderful display to blade-wielding from a distance. She isn't about to approach him until combat resolves, after all. Once the bear meats his demise at the hands of a blade to the head, she walks out from her hiding spot.

And, for the record, she doesn't look like a bear or a familiar face...yet.

Instead, Caleb might find himself staring at a woman, clad in a leather biker jacket and skirt, along with a rather plain black motorcycle helmet. In her gloved hand is a metal briefcase, which leaves one to wonder what's inside. The only thing that might stand out is the familiar yellow scarf and a blue stone around the woman's neck.

"...It seems like I came at a good time. Better late than never, I suppose."

"...and who are you?" Caleb's cautiously optimistic; it sounds kind of like someone he knows, and has a few familiar things, but he's not totally sure. His hand slightly tightens on the vibroblade, though he does flip it off; it doesn't look like she's armed and the blade still cuts even with the power off, just not to the same extent.

He's heard about Battle Royale, and he knows that this is something at least similar. She might be someone hostile, after all. It's better to be safe than sorry.

"It's been a while, so I wouldn't expect you to remember me...Caleb."

She sets the case down on the ground, before bringing both hands to the helmet. A quick snapping noise can be heard, as she removes the biker gear, revealing a smiling Mia. She shakes her neck a little, in order to move all of her hair back in one direction, before resting her gaze on him. That alone should tell him that she's not an enemy, but a friend in disguise.

"I am more inclined to remember people when I can, well, see their faces." Caleb's smiling though - he does remember her, and she's immediately been identified as "friend". The sword goes back in its sheath for now, though one hand's still on it for quick access.

"It is good to see a friendly face here, all things considered. I somehow suspect that not everyone here is friendly - and I do not mean just the local wildlife." Caleb kicks at the bear slightly, and then looks at Mia, concerned. "Have you seen Selene or Grif anywhere? I... do not know if you are familiar with either of them, but I sort of have a vested interest in finding Selene, and Grif is probably the person we would be safest with - he is effectively a walking arsenal."

There's not too much time to screw around, in Caleb's mind - while it is good to have someone both competent and friendly in the group, he's still kind of concerned with finding those two. Anyone else is just gravy (or, you know, out to kill him).

"Understandable. Then again, I guess I'm just being overly cautious today." She decided to keep the helmet off for the duration of this trip, since she doesn't want to get mistaken for an enemy somewhere down the line.

"You mean other humans and creatures...I wouldn't doubt it either, considering the complex nature of this trap. And to think, if I could've made it here sooner, maybe he wouldn't be involved in this." She takes the briefcase in her hand, while walking over to examine where Caleb stabbed the bear. Part of her wants to make sure the thing is dead before moving on.

"No, I haven't. I only got here right as that party's true nature was being revealed. However, it shouldn't be too hard to find either of them if we travel together." One hand reaches down and idly grazes against the dead bear's fur, before looking up at Caleb calmly. "We probably should get moving, especially if this animal has 'friends'."

"There is no such thing as overly cautious, Mia, when there are dire bears wandering around." Caleb's attitude is that of someone who's *seen* things like this before. He's not sure what else is here, but given that it seemed to be kind of Battle Royale-esque, and there's giant creatures too... well, yeah, he thinks it's probably a good idea to keep going.

The bear, thankfully, is very dead.

"Right. Do you have any weapons, by chance, or know how to use them?" The vibrosword's back out, but now more for practical reasons - in a jungle, it's a fantastic tool for cutting through foliage. "I have a few in my backpack, plus whatever Selene left in there, but..."

"I can agree with you there. Bears can't be the worst of what's lingering around this place, so there's always something to watch out for." Even though it doesn't seem like it, Mia has a pretty clear view on the situation. Once she realizes that the bear is plainly dead, she sets her biker helmet down on the ground, before walking over to Caleb.

"I'm prepared for the situation." And to prove her point, she opens up the case to reveal a simple silver gun and a red spear, which is folded into three compact pieces. There's also a strange stack of blue-backed cards, but they don't seem very important. "Don't worry. A lot a changed since we last saw each other, and I'm able to handle myself a bit better, without having to rely on you or anyone else for strength. I'm sure you'll need the firearms as well, correct?"

Caleb didn't think of Mia as someone who wasn't tough; just someone who wasn't typically well armed. Generally lawyers don't tend to carry around spears and guns and other weapons, so this assumption is still true in most cases, even if it's not now.

"I should be fine, too." In addition to the vibrosword, Caleb takes a rather utilitarian, futuristic gun out from his vest. "I have this... and, ah." He sets it down on the ground, and then takes his backpack off from his pack. Rooting around in it, he takes out... what appears to be the top of a personal missile launcher tube.

It's hard to tell what the exact size of it is, but it's pretty obvious that there is no way that should be capable of fitting in that backpack.

"I believe we will be fine on weaponry for now," he says, grinning. He'd argued with his commanders when they'd told him to get training in personal weaponry before coming to the Nexus on a more permanent basis; it was at this time that he was thanking them.
