Can't see the jungle for the trees
Phoenix is having a hard time keeping it together right now, but he's making a valiant effort. Even through his fear, he can recognize that just sitting around doing nothing is a great way to get himself killed. So he's volunteered to map out some of the area, with some hope that they'll find a way out of this place soon enough.
Of course, he's not stupid enough to go alone. Mitsuru and Akihiko were with him, at least, and if Mitsuru's abilities were anything to judge by, the two of them together would at least be a match for whatever's out there.
