BOO!!

Since today was the last day of school before Halloween they had a costume parade and let the kids dress up in their costumes. Of course I was up until 11pm last night finishing his hat for his costume. I had the car today (his cousins birthday party is tomorrow night and we need to drive and my mom is working downtown all weekend and doesn't need the car!) so I picked him up from school and went straight over to my moms house to pick up the paper work for a mystery shop I had to do. Once I had that done we headed to a different mall to go trick or treating. They do a special thing where the stores in the mall can hand out treats to the kids, it's in the afternoon when the older kids are at school so that the 5 and under set can get some treats without all the competition and walking around outside in the cold late at night. It was fun, he got a whole bags worth and really enjoyed himself. I've got a picture of him done by one of the photography stores, they were doing it for free but were accepting donations for a kids charity. I'll get my mom to scan that picture later, they had a really nice backdrop and used a really nice DSLR.

Any way, on to the costume pics. He decided that he wanted to be a bat instead of a pumpkin, which was fine by me since the costume only cost me $2.26 plus about 4 hours of sewing/cutting. :D

The whole thing, I got the mirco fleece in the clearance bin for $4/meter and only needed a half meter. I cut out the bat wing shape for the cape and sewed it onto the back of the sweater.

(I'll take closer pics later to show how I did everything, I'm just lazy right now. lol)

He loves this costume, I'm glad because it was a bit of a pain to do the hat.

Close up of the hat on his head. I sewed this by hand from a pattern that Eric and I drew up. It's quite simple and I'll scan the pattern piece we made in case anyone wants to make this costume.

Close up of the hat on the styrofoam head. I'm so in love with his bat hat and I think he'll probably wear it until it gets really cold here.

So that's it. I'll post a tutorial for the costume if anyone is interested. I've also been doing some crocheting, there's this closeout sale that happens in the same building a few times a year and they had these huge balls of yarn for $1.59 each. I ended up buying three, in yellow, orange and a dark red, you firefly fans will know what I'm planning on making. Unfortunately the red isn't the same gauge as the yellow and orange and it's not really the right colour anyway. I'm going to go back soon and see if I can find a smaller gauge and the right colour. For now I've been making little pumpkins which I will take pictures of soon as well. :D
