Prompt: 10. Front
Characters/Pairing(s): Aiba+Jun
Notes: In the Vampire!Universe I wrote for
Drabble Prompts #2, more or less, except a more serious side of it. I think I'll write little bits and pieces. 475.
"Matsujun?"
There's no answer.
"Jun?"
Aiba cocks his head and swings his legs down from where he has been sitting on the edge of Jun's tall desk. He can see how Jun's eyelashes brush towards and then away from his smooth cheeks and that same odd affection fills him again, making him warm in a way not even fresh blood can.
Aiba's lived a long time, longer than Jun probably thinks, but nothing has made him happier than having Jun before him. Maybe it's Jun's hidden naivete, an oddity in a human turned to a vampire, or maybe it's his beauty - but Aiba's seen many beautiful people over the years, and beauty's nothing.
He begins to hum and Jun's gaze shoots up from his papers, like he's just noticed Aiba's there. "What?" he snaps.
Aiba smiles. "There's a vampire targeting little girls on the northern side of town. I thought you'd wanna check it out."
"Aiba." Jun lowers his pen. The blue light that filters through his office strikes on the tired corners of his eyes and he rubs at them. "We aren't the good ones. We don't have to be good."
"But you want to be. Does it matter what we are?"
Jun sucks in a breath. He's tired because Jun tries so hard to be neutral, so hard to never give the slayers any reason to harm him or any of the lower vampires under him. So hard to never give their more bloodthirsty relatives any reason to assume that Jun's not normal, that nobody under his command quite is. Neutrality is a new concept in their world of light and dark.
The gaze of Jun's dark eyes is analytical. "...Aiba, you're so damn human sometimes."
Aiba cocks his head again. This conversation, he thinks, has been building for a year but that is a second to Aiba, or more two. "You know I was never human, Jun-chan."
"I know." Jun stands up and drifts around the corner of the desk. Aiba takes a moment to admire his smooth movements, the sleek fall of his dark hair, the raw power thrumming in his vampire blood. "But what I can never tell is whether you really are stupid or something... else."
"Does it matter?" Aiba repeats, and grins.
Jun gazes into Aiba's eyes for a moment longer, seconds wearily extended, then leans back. "Why did you join me? I've figured out you're powerful, more so than me."
Because you're kind. "There's no one else like you."
"That's a shit reason, Masaki."
You're kind, and you're not a coward like me, and you'll be able to do the things I've never been able to do. You'll change the world.
"It's not," Aiba breathes out and sharply tugs Jun to him, running his teeth over the delicate skin at Jun's throat. Jun shudders, hands tightening on Aiba's shoulders. "As long as you stay at my front, Jun, I'll stand with you forever."
THEONETHINGWhy are these memes so oddly entertaining? D: Good night, guys.
(I was going to write two more drabbles, but I am sleeeeepy. And oddly fond of vampire!Jun and vampire!Aiba, but not vampires in general, really.)
