[ Background/History ]
Guy was born Gailardia Galan, heir of House Gardios, of the Isle of Hod. His childhood was a happy one, living with his parents and older sister, Maribelle, as well as his best friend and personal guard, Vandesdelca Musto Fende. Vandesdelca's father was one of the Knights of the Gardios family, and, along with Peergynt Sadan Naimach, Guy's sword instructor and a retainer of the Gardios family, were known as the "Sword and Shield" of House Gardios. Because of how protected he was, Guy tended to be a bit more on the scared side of things, which often caused his sister to scold him. However, this happiness was to be short-lived, as his peaceful world was shattered on his sixth birthday. As his family gathered around to hear his Score reading, Duke Fabre's forces attacked, which led to the destruction of all of Hod. To protect him, Marybelle and her maids defended him, shielding him with their own bodies. Guy later woke up on a boat heading toward the East Rugnica Plain, having been rescued by Peergynt (who henceforth would be known as Pere). However, Guy had no memories of anything that happened past the Scorer beginning to recite his birthday Score.
Eventually, Guy and Pere reached Baticul and entered into the household of Duke Fabre; Pere as a gardener, and Guy as babysitter for Fabre’s young son. It was here that Guy was reunited with Vandesdelca (now known as Van Grants), and the two of them made a pact. Guy was intent on taking revenge for his family on Duke Fabre, and Van offered to help him. In return, however, Guy would have to help Van with a plan of his own. Despite not knowing the details of the plan, the young boy agreed.
Guy’s plan for revenge largely involved going through Luke, to hurt Duke Fabre by taking away his family, as he had done to Guy. Therefore, Guy was indifferent, if not downright cold, to the boy (at least for the most part). Guy’s attitude changed, though, when Luke was kidnapped at age 10. When he returned, he was almost as an infant, with no memories or even the knowledge to walk or talk, and Guy couldn't help but treat the boy better, when he was so helpless. He even went so far as to be like an older brother to him, as well as occasional parental figure, for Duke Fabre had never spared time for his son, neither before, nor after, the kidnapping.
This semi-familial relationship went on for seven years, even after Luke had been retaught the basic things he needed to know (though he never was able to remember anything before the kidnapping. Guy, knowing the difference in their places (Duke’s son and servant), nevertheless snuck to the boy’s room, and became the only friend Luke had, since he wasn’t allowed to leave the Ducal grounds.
One day, when Luke was 17, an intruder broke into the estate, and a surprising hyperresonance between Luke and the intruder caused the both of them to disappear. Under the direction of Van, Guy was included in the search for Luke in Malkuth, searching by land via Chesedonia. Before being sent, he confronted Van about what the man’s plan was (that he had agreed to help with), but was only told that he’d know “when the time is right.”
Guy did find Luke, and the intruder, known as Tear, in the custody of Jade Curtis, a colonel of the Malkuth military, who was in the process of escorting the Fon Master, Ion, to Baticul, to formally broach the subject of a peace treaty. However, when Guy found them, they were under attack from the God Generals of Daath, though the small party were able to get the upper hand, and escape from the soldiers. Knowing that neither Tear nor Luke had passports, and would not be able to cross the border, the party traveled to the border city of Kaitzur, where Jade had arranged to meet with Anise, Ion’s Guardian, as well as where Guy had arranged to meet with Van.
Before the group could take a ship from the Kaitzur Naval Port to Chesedonia (and from there to Baticul), they were waylaid by the abduction of the ship’s engineer (and the destruction of all of the ships in the port). Van indicated that the party should remain in the Naval Port and wait for another ship, regardless of Arietta, one of the God Generals, having instructed them to bring Luke and Ion to Choral Castle as a trade. The party decided to go against Van’s wishes and travel to Choral Castle anyway, where Guy revealed that here was the where Luke had been found after his kidnapping. A kidnapping which was repeated, and the party was forced to search the castle for him, where they found him with a strange fon machine. Sync, another of the God Generals, was there, and Guy was able to knock off his mask, causing him to drop the fon disc he’d taken from the machine, as well as getting a shocking look at the young man’s face.
Returning to the Naval Port, the group took a ship to Chesedonia, and made acquaintances with Astor, the head of the town, who agreed to help them analyze the data on the fon disc. However, their possession of this was short lived, as they were attacked on their way to the ferry by Sync, who took the disc and hit Guy with a strange arte, and on the ferry by Dist, who took the data (though Jade had already read it over).
When they finally returned to Baticul, the party delivered the letter from the Malkuth emperor, and Luke was reunited with his parents and fiancé, Princess Natalia, who was quite mad at Guy, who had left him behind when he’d left to search for Luke. Their rest in Baticul was short-lived, however, when the contents of the letter of peace was revealed, and the party was sent to the Malkuthian town of Akzeriuth, to assist in evacuating the citizens, for the town was filled with a deadly miasma. Before they could get far, though, Ion was once again captured, and the group (plus Natalia, who forced herself along) took a detour to the Zao Ruins, where they faced against three of the God Generals, Sync, Largo, and Asch, who bore a suspicious similarity to Luke. After escaping from the Ruins, the party reached Chesedonia, and Guy suddenly felt his control over his body lapse, and he lashed out at Luke. It passed quickly, and Ion revealed that the arte Sync had used, and the mark on his arm, was a Curse Slot, which would allow Sync to control Guy. The party opted to move as quickly as they could away from Chesedonia. They made their way from the Naval Port to Akzeriuth, where they tried to help as many of the citizens as they could, when suddenly everything started shaking. Guy and the others rushed to the deepest part of the town, just in time to find a collapsed Luke and Ion, and Van escaping on a griffon with Asch. There was no chance for them (or anyone else) to escape, as the entire town was collapsing around them. They gathered as close as they could, and Tear used her Fonic Hymns to protect them as they fell into the depths, passing out on the way down.
[ Personality ]
Despite his harsh childhood, Guy is polite to a fault. Or perhaps that should be in spite of it? As a servant, Guy was forced to learn humility and humbleness, although he still carries himself with the hint of a more noble upbringing, far away though it might be. He’s got an extremely long temper, most likely owing to dealing with Luke and Natalia, as well as biting down on his own goals and working as a servant.
Guy is also the epitome of chivalry, willing to put up with almost anything, including blatant abuse from Natalia, without complaint. He's got a way with words, whether he realizes it or not. It's an oft-repeated complaint that he is sweet-talking the women, when he's afraid to be near them, but Guy is so honest that he doesn't even realize what he's doing!
He’s fairly laid back, but, as a trained soldier, he’s also always ready to jump into action. He tries to stay fairly upbeat, although he still gets angry and upset the same as anyone else, though he tries not to show it in public. Certain things, however, set him off more than others, such as his sister, or Hod. Guy’s got a pretty good sense of humor as well, poking fun and teasing his friends, but it’s always in good humor, never to hurt, and it would be rare to catch him making a joke at another’s expense.
Guy's been accused of being a "woman-hater", but he fervently denies it. Granted, this usually leads to the other extreme of him being a womanizer, but Guy's more in the middle. Like any hormonal male, he enjoys looking at beautiful women, and, if it weren't for his gynophobia, he'd likely enjoy being in their close company. But, until he can get past his gynophobia, he's stuck in the middle.
Guy is very loyal and honest, both of which can get him in trouble. Guy openly acknowledges that his loyalty to Van as a friend, if not for his friendship with Luke, could well have lead to him to joining Van’s side, instead of fighting against him. Even if he becomes upset or angry, he’ll still give people the benefit of the doubt, until they prove to him that his loyalty is unfound. However, this also makes it easy for people to hide the things that they don’t want him to know, to keep the loyalty. His honesty also causes problems, but generally of the more humorous variety (like when he gets pushed into the spa with the women, and Anise “innocently” asks him if Tear or Natalia have bigger “melons”…). He’ll often say things without thinking of the consequences, which can get him into trouble, though it also shows others that they can trust him.
Guy is also very intelligent, and pays attention to detail. This often leads to him being called upon to provide explanations, regardless of it being his idea or not. It also helps him with his mechanical work with his precious fon machines, in putting things together and taking them apart. This is not, however, to say that he has an eidetic memory. Something could ping a memory, but it might take him a while to realize why he recognizes it.
His biggest weakness, however, seems to be his apparent inability to let things go and move on. Though he doesn’t know the cause of his gynophobia, the fact that something like this, which happened 16 years earlier, is still with him, helps to prove this. Another point is his friendship with Van. Though Guy has yet to learn of Van’s motives at this canon point, it is shown that, partially through loyalty and partially because he can’t (or won’t) move on, that even at the final battle, Guy still clings to the idea that they may be able to convince Van of his errors.
[ Specialties and Abilities ]
As a warrior, Guy’s strengths lie in his speed and agility. His strength is slightly less than other fighters, but he makes up for it by his speed. He is very much a “hit and run” type fighter, likely owing to the fact that he has a fairly low physical defense (however, he is a bit more resilient to magical attacks). His fighting style is also similar to the Japanese style of Iai, which is the art of drawing one’s sword, cutting down one’s enemy, and resheathing one’s sword, all in one fluid movement.
Guy’s biggest weakness, by far, is his gynophobia. He knows he didn’t have a problem as a child, but there is one crucial moment missing from his memories: when his family was killed. He doesn’t know what happened then, that was horrible enough for him to block his memory, but he does know that it was that period of time when he started fearing women.
[ Other Important Facts ]
The game is wrong. Guy was born in 1996, Hod fell in 2002. It was his sixth birthday, not his fifth. I use six.
