Unintentionally ignoring the two boys who were with him, Senri was staring at his book, with a smile on his face. As long as he had this book, things would be all right. It was his connection to the world, something worth more to him than money would ever be.
"When you want to make sure you remember something... please put something you like in this book."
Suddenly, two small girls ran by, knocking the bags out of his companion's hands, and his book out of his own. One of the boys with him shouted at them, to which they gave an insincere apology before running down the stairs and snatching the fallen goods--his book included.
"Ah..." Senri's eyes widened, and he immediately began chasing after the girl with his book, all the way into a set of underground tunnels, consequently getting separated from the others. Still, none of that mattered. What did was retrieving the book.
"Then, when you see it again, you'll remember it, right?"
After temporarily losing her, he spotted the girl down below, sitting on a rock and leafing through the pages. Without a moment's hesitation, he jumped down, crashing through planks of wood. If it hurt at all, he didn't show it.
"Book...!" he said between breaths, while the girl cried in surprise. And so the chase continued, through the tunnels, past rock and more wood. Finally, at a dead end, over murky water, it stopped.
"Uh... ah... y-your book! Here!" the girl exclaimed, holding the object out in front of her, her eyes shut tight. Behind her, in the water, shadows began to form beneath its surface. Senri noticed this, but she obviously didn't.
"We have to get out of here, or..." She didn't get the chance to finish her sentence, as green leeches, as large as the girl, emerged from the water. One's tongue shot out and wrapped itself around her ankle, pulling her off the edge. Several moved towards Senri as well, but he had no time to worry about himself--even more were surrounding the girl, who was struggling and screaming now.
Swiftly, Senri's right arm transformed. The top half of his fingers turned into large claws, and his +Anima scar could be seen for a second, when his sleeve disappeared, before ashen grey fur covered his arm. He swept at the leeches around him, his claws easily cutting through their bodies. Next, the girl. Even though countless numbers of leeches were around her, almost covering her entirely, Senri tore through them as well.
Her life and his book--his memories--were at stake. There was no way he was going to lose either.
Grabbing her from the group of leeches, more still coming, he smiled at the sobbing girl.
"... You'll be fine!"
