Der Tod: Asaji Saki
Rudolph: Emao Yu

Thoughts:
Saki has an amazing appearance for Der Tod. Despite her rather feminine features, she manages the look and feeling of a man so well that by the end of this song, I'm ready to bet my hat that she really is the male personification of Death. However, this version of Yami ga ( Read more... )

I've decided to comment on each of these as I watch, since I can't watch things without making comments to someone and you're not online. I'm also not reading your thoughts until I've typed out mine.

1. The actresses' voices are perfect here. They sing with this strength that really matches the mood of the song, and from a purely theatrical point of view it's impossible to find a complaint. That said, this song is all intensity and not enough emotion, which bothers me a little, because even though it's a musical there still needs to be a relateable emotional basis. It's interesting that Death here is very, very feminine, but carries her(?)self with the sharp ease of movement that's very stage!male. She's perfectly seductive without being sexually seductive and I love that.

2. Mm, somewhat dislike. It feels like neither actress is singing with everything she has - compared, especially, to Saki and Yu, whose voices are just so strong and powerful. This feels weak because it lacks both intense and emotional vocals and real, human emotion - so it's music, but it doesn't evoke as strong a feeling within the listener.

3. Oh, love. Tatsuki's voice has this incredible amount of pure emotion and there's something so very heart-wrenching about it, just in the way she uses her tone range. Ichiro, too, has this darkly majestic voice that you can't help but want to love and fear at the same time. I found the choreography a little clunky; not unbelievable, given the scene, but lacking the grace that would make it intentionally volatile rather than just clunky dancing. That said, I still love it.

4. The interaction between Rudolph and Death here is just absolutely spot-on perfect. Their chemistry is amazing and every single bit of their movement in relations to each other speak volumes. My only complaint is that I was really underwhelmed by the line that ends with "dekinai" mostly because Tatsuki had done it SO well and by contrast Hikaru's last note feels very... not even weak, just, flat. Her stage emotions are so absolutely perfect, though - strong and to-the-point without being even a little contrived. Also, there's something about her expression and the way she uses her features that none of the other Rudolphs seem to have. I can't quite put my finger on what it is.

5. Ooh, I like Nao. There's this - again I'm going to use 'majestic' - there's this majestic grace about her that just immediately dominates the scene. She pulls off the grace, too, without it being necessarily feminine grace; there's just a strong, purposeful smoothness about her movements that really personifies. Also, amazing amazing voice. I think the actresses here work well together to both contrast and complement each other.

it's 2:30 in the morning, i'm too lazy to care about typos. I hope this made sense.

It all made perfect sense, actually. And I agree with everything you said and was happy to see that you'd made some of the same observations I had.

Now you just need to watch Sumire's version in the entry below this one... Even though I adore both Nao and Asato (and Ichiro for that matter), Sumire just pwns Der Tod. It's the crazy smirk, I tell you - the crazy smirk says it all. She blows me away, both in Yami ga Hirogaru and especially in Saigo no Dansu. She's really made that solo hers. The growl in her voice makes me purr...

Also, on another note... exam is going well! If you're lucky, I'll actually get around to write that Takarazuka!Haruka/Michiru drabble tomorrow afternoon. If I don't get too caught up in writing original fiction... or studying, which is what I really should be doing.

Yeah, I just read back over yours too. Great minds? Either that or the universal awesomeness of this song just transcends everything and everyone must fangirl it to the same level.

And yeeaaah, I'll get on to watching the other two. This song is incredibly hard to get out of your head.

... you know, you should study. XD but if you end up writing that drabble, or in fact original fiction, show! I love your writing. I'm also writing original fiction atm ( both the thing I'm writing for you and this other crazy piece that I've yet to make sense of ) so let's see how we go.

Since it's like midnight where you are, I'll assume you're in bed. <3 so, sleep well!
