This is something someone told me tonight:
"If Obama wins, America will have a black president. That's bound to go down in the history books."
I laughed inside. I don't want anyone to say anything to me about American politics ever.
I view the election (and the primaries) as having the same importance as the world series or the superbowl. It's another way for people to make a lot of money, and fill a bit more of what would otherwise be meaningful time. The president is a holographic representation of America. Dig deeper and you'll find who really makes the decisions in this country, I'll give you a clue, it's not you, and it never will be.
So fuck your Iowa caucuses, your Super Tuesdays, and your New Hampshire suckfests. I could care less which grinning mask the monster that is America chooses to wear for another 4 to 8 years. War, poverty, famine, and the raping of earth will all continue because those things are now nothing more than gears in the system of industry. They factor heavily into someone's bottom line.
No wonder so many of us are looking for an end-date, sitting on our hands grinning and discussing ideas like 2012 and biblical apocalypse. We're getting sick of the system and realize that no amount of progressiveness, or compassionate conservatism, or populism, or grassroots campaigning, or brighter tomorrows can fix such a flawed system.
A flawed system cannot be fixed, it can only be cosmetically repaired. Plastic-surgerized, face-lifted. Slowly the system breaks apart from the inside, but eventually it is external chaos that forces the decay. I'm talking about a wide-scale disaster here, Katrina didn't do shit, the war in Iraq won't do shit. I'm talking global catastrophe.
I hate to break it to you, but you are doing nothing more than rooting for a team in a game. People with real power will keep it no matter what. 8 of our presidents could trace their bloodlines to the original members of the fucking Mayflower. That is not a coincidence. This entire system was designed by a small group of powerful men who knew what they were doing. They'd read Machiavelli, they knew that the illusion of choice was the opiate of the masses.
In 4 years, it doesn't matter if America has a black president or a woman president or a muslim president or a mexican president or a white president, there will still be things you are told to fear, we will still be lab rats in the great experiment of democracy chasing iphones and hormones through some infinitely twisted labyrinth. The game ended long ago and we lost, there is no such thing as massive globe sweeping change, without a massive catalyst.
Truthfully, if you want to fix the system, you best just throw your wrench into it. Only by destroying what you fear will you truly overcome it.
