I think the story of the Good Samaritan loses some of its punch in modern retellings because your average 21st century Christian doesn't care much about cross-cultural tensions in ancient Judea, even if they know intellectually "yeah, some groups didn't get along." So a modern retelling where the guy gets rescued by a Sister of Perpetual Indulgence or something might convey the original intent a little better.
