Hello, everyone! I'm sure you remember how we planted those flowers last time...since the winter's likely to kill them, wouldn't be a good idea to make a greenhouse, too? Maybe we could look into it once it warms up!

A..and Miss Flonne? If it's not too much trouble, do you think I'd be able to stay with you over the winter? My housemate has someone ( Read more... )

A greenhouse isn't a bad idea, but, um, where would we get all the glass? If I'm not mistaken, which, um, I totally could be, glass is made of sand, and there isn't any sand. Even around the lake, it's mostly just mud... without even a high clay content or anything.

Ohhh, you're right...I don't know of any other way we'd be able to do it...maybe someone'll think of something.

Can glass be reverse-blown? If so, if there's anything glass in the stores, we could maybe melt it down and re-form it? Like we'd have to do if we need anything made of metal? I dunno.

Can anyone here even work glass?

Hey.... maybe you could use cloth instead! Strong white cloth! That would let sunlight in, and you could put it on a wooden frame or something so the snow couldn't get in. I don't know how much cold it would keep out, though... cloth doesn't insulate very well.

Ohh, cloth! That's a good idea... So's the reverse-blowing thing, but I don't know if anyone here can work glass.
I'll ask around.

Maybe if you had shutters that could be closed over the sides, to keep the wind out? You'd need an internal heat source, though, like another of those stoves. But you shouldn't take one from a cabin, because, well, more people have been coming, and people are more important than plants. ^_^;;

Good point! You're pretty smart, you know that, Coramir?
Kinda reminds me of Lillith... [pauses for a moment]
B..but, ah, you don't care about that. I'll just ask around about heat sources then. There's a chance that I'd be able to work something out, but I don't think magic works here...

I haven't gotten around to asking about peoples' magic yet. There are some conflicting reports, like, Zuko uses a kind of elemental control based on internal energy and martial arts, and it's weakened, but he can still do some pretty impressive stuff. My magic's supposed to be internal, but I channel it through a wand, which I don't have. Eventually I was going to try to create a new focus somehow, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. Or any experiments with my own magic, really.

It would have to be contained, though. Um, the heat source. You don't want a stray spark to catch the whole thing on fire.

I haven't really tried any magic yet either. I use..how would I put it...? I mostly use elemental magic based around summoning pacts. Yeah, that's it. I think I read somewhere that pacts're broken after you die, so...

I just figured it wouldn't work. But you channel yours through a wand? I think one of my textbooks talked about magicians doing that...the material the wand's made from is a good conductor for magical energy, which makes it a good focus, right? We have something like that where I'm from too.

Yes, that's it. Only, the materials and composition of a wizard's wand are very, very specific where I come from. The wand chooses the wizard... I can't make just ANY old stick into a wand, or just any old substance into a core. But wizards from my world have been known to create magical effects without a wand when they were feeling intense emotions like anger or fear... it happens a lot when we're children, before we get wands of our own. I was going to see if I could provoke some kind of response like that in myself, or focus past the need for the tool, but I haven't tried yet.
