[ Polka has been busy, between wandering around at night, during the day, and today brings the results of her wanderings. Or... partial results at least. Because she is carrying with her a small wicker basket with handles, like a picnic basket really. To stay warm, she's wearing a cute red shawl with a hood. She moves with purpose and ( Read more... )

Oh hey, Polka.

[And Polka stops short to smile brightly, tilting her head. ]
Good afternoon Oswald! How are you?

I'm doing fine. Though, what's with the red shawl?

Huh? This? [ Polka laughs. ] It's not cold enough for the coat, and I got this when I first came here. Why, is something wrong with it? [ She pauses to check for holes. ]

No. It just reminded me of this story back home.

Little Red Riding Hood, right?

Something like that. I used to tell it my kids when they were younger.

[...Nevermind that back then, the slightly-more-child-friendly version hadn't existed yet.]

Oh! I didn't know you had children. How many?

[ It-- it's probably a good thing that Polka never heard the less child-friendly version. ._. She'd cry. ]

Two. 'Course, they don't need me telling them stories any more these days.

Why not? Are they too old for stories now?

Although personally I think anyone would benefit from stories from their elders, no matter how old.

They're teenagers now. [Which, considering how old he looks to be, doesn't really make a lot of sense.] Kind of busy off doing their own things these days.

Depends if they actually listen, of course.

Hm... how much older are the teenagers? [ Because Polka's a teenager, even ..though she.. probably looks a lot younger considering someone thought she was TEN. Rude! ] I think even people who are teenagers - even adults - could use stories.

Isn't there a saying about that? [ Pause while she tries to remember it. ] Something about learning from your past to prepare you for the future, right? Although I suppose it's true you can't force someone to listen. [ And he was awfully YOUNG to have kids that old -- maybe they were adopted. ]

[He has been totally assuming she's like...12 or so because she seems pretty young, haha. Also, his kids weren't so much adopted as it was "Right, so I just have to babysit them for a while and they're kind of amusing -- ...shit I got attached to them." :|b]

Older than you, I can say that. Though you'd swear one of them is ten just from how he acts. And I bet the other one would actually like this place, at least for a while.

Eh, it's up to them whether they want to listen or not. Their loss if they don't.

[ /Sob ..close! She's fourteen! And... well that's still kind of adopting - just not making it official through paperwork.

Polka giggles a bit at the description of one of the kids. ] Are they both boys? [ She pauses, and nods slowly. It would indeed be their loss, but - who knows. ]

I keep hearing that a lot of people don't like it here. I guess it's because they have things to do back home, or there are dangerous people, and then there's these things that the malnosso are said to have done. But even with that, I can't bring myself to say I don't like it here.

[ .. she was alive, after all. ]

[Your expression makes him vaguely concerned.]

Only the younger one's a boy. The older one is the one that'd probably like this place -- what with all the experiments and people.

...Personally, I'd rather go back home because my kids are there and I have a job I like to do. But different strokes for different folks.

[ No need to be concerned. Honest. See her honest, not shifty face? ]

Well, the last experiment was fun, even though I wasn't affected by it. But I think that the majority of the people here would be inclined to agree with you, wanting to go home and everything.

It's a shame the Malnosso didn't pick people who wouldn't mind being taken away from their homes - unless it was just that they don't have any means of picking and choosing people like that. I hear that people have been sent home though, so maybe you'll get lucky one day.
