...or Floppycorpse 0 - Blood Loss 2
So I have wanted to be a good citizen and donate blood. This has been previously discussed at barely-lucid.blog-city. My motivation is mainly because I want to find out my blood type. Today was a blood drive at work so I signed up for a 9am appointment. I answered all the questions and they did the little test to see gawd-knows-what they were measuring. I did give blood. A whole pint. Isn't that nice?
Afterwards, I wasn't feeling well when I got back to my desk. I told my cube-mate (we share cubes) that I was going to be weird and lay on the floor. He seemed unconcerned. I was feeling very very very close to blacking out so I put my feet up on my chair. Since our cubes are small, this was noticable to others and of course raised some alarm. I didn't think too much of anything and to make a very long story short, I ended up getting to ride the ambulance with the very nice paramedics who gave me an iv of fluid and the noseplug O2 (it's stinky btw).
The ER staff at the downtown hospital were silly. I liked them very much and the EKG guy was a hottie so I am glad I shaved my legs. XD I wasn't very paniced, but the staff were pretty concerned. Ironically, they had to take some more blood. They hooked me up to more tubes and wires than I can count. Some blood, pee in a cup and a bunch of pokes later, turns out I shouldn't really be giving blood. All in all I am pretty disappointed and not really looking forward to going back to work after being wheeled out by the paramedics. (how many times will I tell the story?) I am thinking I should make up some crazy tale, but keep it short like: I'm fine, but the baby's gone (i know, not funny) or It's better now that they cut that off.
I am dreading the bill I will receive for my attempt at public service. Clare came to my rescue when they finally let me go at 3pm. So THANK YOU CLARE!!
The ER is an interesting place. I have never been in one before. There were people coming and going. Some patient was wailing in an ungodly manner...it didn't sound human at all, someone was wretching A LOT, someone else had his face all bashed up, and the nice little old lady in the room next to me may or may not have had a stroke this morning. I experienced a very strong deja vu when it came to the lady. Something about a past dream and noseplug O2 and pain in my arm and some granny talking loudly into the phone "They took a picture of my heart, but I am waiting for the Neurologist". That part was super creepy.
