Record of Memories

Your Attention Please!!!!! Hubby has officially declared that he likes Arashi!!!!! But we'll get to that later on lol

I'm very fortunate that all the stars aligned and I was able to make my way down to AMC to watch RoM Tuesday night. Both hubby and I actually took the day off from work to make it happen. I bought the tix online, booked appointments and paid additional $120 for our antigen test. We drove across the border from Canada and hubby drove 5 hours in total in order for me to fulfill my wish.

Of course, it wasn't just all for me 😆 We had side excursions to Trader Joe's and The Cheesecake Factory where we filled our shopping cart and tummies with all the food we sorely missed during the last 3 years.

Anyway, back to RoM... I attended the 6pm screening and arrived at 5:30pm. I was very disappointed that there weren't any posters displayed in front of the dolby theater entrance 😒
There was only us and 1 other person inside the theater at that time but I knew there'd be more cuz I kept checking the ticket sales site the last few days to see how many seats were left lol.

More people arrived about 10 minutes before the show. I kept forgetting that most of them had to rush from work to get here!
There wasn't much fan interaction for my 6pm screening. Everyone mostly kept to themselves or chatted with their own group of friends. There were a few small groups of female friends, one other couple, some individual fans watching by themselves, and also one family of 4 (mom, dad and 2 pre-teen girls)!

A lovely older lady sat next to me and we had a nice chat before the movie started 🥲 I've never talked to any other Arashi fan IRL and the experience was just heartwarming and new to me. We talked about how we both never saw any Arashi concerts in person and sad how it's so hard for international fans to join JFC. She said she was also a new Snow Man fan and we both lamented how we wanted to order their new concert DVD but shipping is so expensive lol 💀 Also, it was hilarious that she mistook hubby as my father 🤣🤣🤣 It's ok, dear!! It happens all the time. He just has premature grey hair and I just look young for my age 😅😅😅

I wore my TIAL hoodie and brought my 5x20 mini uchiwa and penlight too. I only saw a handful of people wear arashi merch and only a group of 3 girls actually waved their lit penlights throughout the movie so I refrained from turning on my penlight so as not to distract the fans around me.

I was kind of surprised how quiet the audience was aside from the initial cheer when we saw the Jstorm logo appear. Or maybe the music was too loud and I couldn't hear them?? But since I couldn't hear others singing or doing call & response I just sang along and did my cheers quietly 😅
I was, however, surprised that the lady next to me was totally into the concert just like me lol. We both grooved to the music in our seats, we did the dance hand movements, and I even heard her squeal sometimes when arashi did fan service on screen lol. She would be a great companion in a real concert or while watching DVD cons together 😆

As expected, I got teary-eyed when Kansha Kangeki played at the beginning and then full-on cried at the end during 5x20 😭 I still cannot listen to 5x20 without getting weepy.

I'm especially grateful for the English subtitles since I was worried hubby would get bored if he didn't understand what was going on. He told me he nodded off for a quick minute right before Sho's piano solo but he paid attention pretty much the whole time. He even noticed that Sho penned a lot of the rap lyrics during the ending credits roll! Which brings me back to my announcement in the beginning!!!!!

On our way back home in the car, we were discussing about RoM when hubby suddenly declared "You know what, I like Arashi too!" and I was kinda "...Really?? 🤔" like I wasn't sure how to react or believe him lol so I asked him why. He said that after watching the concert he really appreciated their hard work put into it. Even tho he only recognized about half of the songs in the concert, he said he does like a lot of their songs that I play in our car commutes. And then, gathering from all the TV shows we watch together and the stuff that I tell him, he said he really likes how the 5 of them are so real and genuine (no fake personas or putting up airs), how they respect each other and how strong their relationship is as a group ❤

When I talked about the differences between the 5x20 DVD and the RoM movie, he was confused cuz he thought it was a single concert performed only on 1 night and I was like Nooooo!!! Arashi did 50 shows throughout the course of a year cuz they wanted all their FC members to have a chance to watch at least once!!! He was so genuinely blown away by that fact that he also declared how much he admired them after knowing that 😭😭😭

Thank you, Arashi, for bringing Record of Memories to USA. Even though I would have preferred that it was screened in Canada as well, I'm happy that more fans around the world had the opportunity to watch it 🥲 It was a unique and probably once-in-a-lifetime experience for me. This whole situation of travelling outside the country during covid to watch a movie was already out of the ordinary anyway lol

本当にありがとうございました ❤💛💚💙💜
幸せです🥰 5 is my treasure number
