This has been a weird day for Pittsburgh weather.

Temperature (with wind chill): -18C
So cold that when I came in this morning, I felt like I had injected local anesthesia in my nose and lips - the only exposed parts of the body, they felt numb and thrice their normal size!

BUT, but, I look out of my window and all I see is beautiful, gorgeous sunshine!! Believe me people, when I say that it is a sight that has been eluding me for months now. I had almost forgotten how clear things could look in natural light - how blue the skies could seem, how brown the withered trees could feel, how inviting the outdoors could be.

Sigh, deceptive, cruel weather ..

And for some unrelated random tidbit: caught bits of Pride and Prejudice (the BBC masterpiece series) on PBS yesterday. Was especially taken by the part where Eliza stoutly defends Wickham. Find it ironic that women everywhere go about falling for the Wickhams of the world and ignoring the Darcys. Brings to mind Darcy's retort about Wickham (from the book):

"Mr. Wickham is blessed with such happy manners as may ensure his making friends -- whether he may be equally capable of retaining them, is less certain."

Sometimes, I wonder, whether these women are looking for the uncertainty? that they not be retained? If not, are they blind?

random, people, pitts
