Yuletide Letter!
Hi Yuletide Writer! Thank you so much for taking my request! I am so excited--this is my first Yuletide, after accidentally missing the signups a couple years in a row XD
I am pretty easy to please. Under the cut I've written a few ideas, and some of my general likes and dislikes, but feel free to take another tack if that's what you're comfortable with and what your muse demands :) Also, I greedily made the maximum six requests, but that's just to give you more choices, not because I demand lots of fics!
General likes and dislikes
I love humour, action, plot, no plot, romance, pron, gen, mystery, deathfic, Cthulu fic, everything! Almost anything goes! Any rating is okay! There is very little that fazes me. The only things that I am not too interested in is AU for the sake of AU. Don't get me wrong, I like AU and often write it myself, but I like to see a strong sense of purpose in it, not just a window dressing change of scenery. In general, I love it when an author has a strongly specific understanding of the world and/or characters, and is able to illuminate something about the source material that I didn't see or think of before. Or maybe they just make some ridiculous in-joke that only makes sense if you know the source material XD
Request 1: Slam Dunk
Mitsui Hisashi, Kogure Kiminobu, Sakuragi Hanamichi, Rukawa Kaede
Oh gosh, this is the fandom of my heart. Mitsui is my fave, but honestly I love everyone in this series. Everyone. It would be great if there were some basketball action (or other sports? fighting? gangster-related activity?) in the fic but not required. Humour stories are great. Plot is great. Romance is great too. I think my fave pairing in this series is anyone/basketball lol. I've definitely got a weak spot for Mitsui/Kogure...but I've always wondered what would happen if Ayako and Mitsui started fooling around and Miyagi found out. In general, I've always wondered why the hell Miyagi seems to work just fine with Mitsui despite what happened between the two of them pre-series. As for Sakuragi...well, he's such a fun character, just go wild with him :)
Request 2: Ender Series - Orson Scott Card
Valentine Wiggin, Ender Wiggin, Petra Arkanian
Urgh, I love Ender's Game so much, even if Orson Scott Card keeps doing silly things with it. Please feel free to ignore or include any of the sequels/prequels/side stories, but I'd rather you focus on the characters and feel of Ender's Game itself. (I do rather like Zeck Morgan from War of Gifts, so he's the exception.) I would love to see Ender and Val interacting with Peter when they were younger, or older even. Or Ender at Battle School--Battle School is awesome. If you choose to write Petra, make sure she is awesomely messed up sharpshooter Petra from the book and not the boring romantic interest they turned her into in the movie (and the Shadow series too, IMO). Also FYI my fave character is Dink, but he's not on the list because I didn't participate in the nomination period lol. So if you want to include him, please do!
Request 3: Wild ARMs
Jack Van Burace, Rudy Roughnight, Elmina Niet
Now here's an oldie but a goody! I haven't played Wild Arms in years so I honestly don't remember a lot about it, but Jack is my favourite and I would love to learn more about him. His past, his relationship with Elmina, how he ended up with Hanpan. Or, if you want to go the less serious route, we could just see the main trio hanging out and eating too many burgers or blowing off some steam or something like that. And I would like Rudy to stay silent or not saying much if he is in the fic--I just can't imagine our silent hero being a chatterbox, unless he is drunk or something drastic happens XD
Request 4: Temeraire - Naomi Novik
William Laurence, Tenzing Tharkay, Temeraire, Napoléon Bonaparte
Okay, this is a dumb idea, but is it just me or does Tharkay have like magical powers that allow him to just pop up all over the place with exactly what his friends need at exactly the right time??? I am pretty sure there is a Harry Potter crossover in there somewhere. It would be hilarious if Granby or Temeraire started to suspect Tharkay of being a wizard and Laurence was like, "no, that is ridiculous" but the evidence keeps adding up. Meanwhile Hogwarts is just over the hill from Loch Laggan, which the dragons always knew about and they really don't understand why the humans don't. Of course the Chinese school of magic is much larger, older, more tolerant of non-humans, and snootier even than Beauxbatons, where according to the rumous Napoléon is learning how to do something faintly nefarious, like Leviocorpus. Ah ha ha.
Alternatively, you can just write Tharkay-silently-pining-for-clueless-Laurence fic. I can never get enough of those TBH. Especially when they are from clueless Laurence's POV.
Request 5: Disgaea 4: A Promise Unforgotten
Valvatorez, Kazamatsuri Fuuka, Fenrich, Desco
Oh gosh, I can't believe I requested this fandom. I am pretty sure I don't want anything too related to the main storyline, since the game covered that well enough. What I would love to see is...SHENANIGANS. Maybe involving sardines? Game mechanics? Fenrich's werewolfism? Prinny baseball? Up to you! DESCO ATTACKS! Oh, and Fenrich is so gay for Valvatorez. If you want to write about that too...yeah :D
Request 6: Watership Down - Richard Adams
Hazel, Fiver, Bigwig, Silverweed
I would love basically anything in this fandom! Philosophy, world-building, humour, friendship, some silflay action, horror...anything is good. But keep things focused on main characters...I don't remember all the minor bunnies XD And please don't make them humans. What makes Watership Down interesting to me is the sheer...rabbit-ness of it all. Utilizing or building on the lore of the world would be great. Oh, and I am pretty fascinated by the Warren of the Shining Wires (who isn't?), so anything set there would be great.
