"I say fuck the man in the sky!"

Kind of an odd title for a post, granted, but if you have seen the movie that I am about to talk about, you'll understand. Of course with how little the movie made in America, I doubt that anyone will have seen it.

The movie in question is called The Invention of Lying. It was written, directed and starred Ricky Gervais, an English comic that is more known for controversy and his incredibly raunchy and hilarious stand-up. But this movie is more of a love story with a bit of a twist and it really stands apart from all romantic comedies because of the twist.

In the movie, no one on Earth can lie. Well, it's not that they can't it's that it was never invented. Everyone tells the honest truth, despite if they should or not because it is the only thing that they know. And of course this pulls some of the biggest laughs in the film, and also shows just how amazingly boring it is that no one lies, and how horrible it can be for some people to hear the truth day in and day out from their peers and the like. Ricky plays a rather short, fat guy in the movie and he's always called a bit of a loser. And things just go downhill in the first part of the movie for him, as you may expect, right down to losing his job and almost getting evicted from his apartment. And he would have too, if he hadn't been the first man on earth to tell a lie.

From there it really begins to take form as one of the best movies I have seen in a long time. And truely at its heart it takes on alot of things that really are quite taboo in most respects. It truely in a unique take on the origins of religion, as he creates "The Man in the Sky". Since people have never heard a lie, they believe every word, and as it starts out as something pure and from the heart, he quickly begins to realize that people are going to use it in the wrong way, alot of people deciding that since when they die they are going to go to a better place that they should just waste their life here on earth.

All the while he is chasing the woman of his dreams, trying to be with her at all costs, but her view on how his genetics are prevent her from ever wanting to be with him as anything more than a friend. I won't spoil the end of the movie because it is, honestly, the best ending to the film, if maybe a little predictable, but what isn't these days, eh?

Anyway, that is my random rambling/review for the morning. I will probably be back later with another post.
