Survival of the Dead; George A. Romero
Romero's absolutely wonderful new installment to his zombie 'verse
this time focusing on a group of rogue National Guard and the inhabitants of an island off of New England.
I was won over at about three minutes into the film, it shows our survivors holding up and stealing from the kids of Diary of the Dead.
it's exaggeratedly gruesome but with a good dose of comedy (and mild homoeroticism)
the main character Sarge (played by Alan van Sprang -- I know him from a few seasons of the Tudors as a sexy privateer/spy/assassin guy for Henry VIII)
who makes lots of odd googly eyes at a boy they meet along the way played by Devon Bostick (who I had just seen in Diary of a Wimpy Kid as the evil older brother wielding eyeliner)
the absolute best is Athena Karkanis as Tomboy, a badass soldier.
