Usually I don't do this and I hate involving politics in my LJ but with the way things are I just have to say a word about it, please take note that if this is a sensitive subject for you don't read it, I really don't want to get into arguments with any of you so if you have anything to say keep it polite.

I had this out with a stupid co-worker once. We both had an Israeli co-worker and that day, there had been a bombing close to her family's home. Naturally she was very upset. This idiot started spouting off that fighting is never the solution to any conflict and that Israel should just stop fighting back when they are attacked because it doesn't solve anything.

My coworker was beyond enraged but so damned upset she really couldn't coherently rebut his ludicrously naive comments. I got angry at his thoughtlessly self-righteous stance and I snapped back at him. I asked him that if there was someone out there who, for no rational reason, wanted him, his family and all his people wiped from the face of the planet, would he really just sit there and let them do it?? He couldn't seem to grasp the concept of facing an enemy that attacks without seeking to gain anything except your utter destruction.

He had a son and I asked him would he do nothing if there was a person or group of persons out there that stated formally, publicly and without shame that their only goal in life was to see his son dead? Would he offer these men flowers when they came to his house with guns to kill his son? He sputtered, shocked and outraged at such a suggestion and I had to point out that that's what our co-worker, her family and her nation faced every day.

He shut up and never said another word about it.

I still am astonished by his ability to look and still completely miss what was happening right in front of him. How anyone can buy into the hype and propaganda that Hamas puts out there is beyond me. But, it really brings home to me the fact that the world is full of stupid people and they are dangerous because they are so numerous.

I wish I could make the killing stop. I wish I could make your home a safe place to be every minute of every day, my friend. What I can do and will do is spread the word where I can, even if it's just to enlighten one idiot at a time.

OMG... you have no idea how important this is for me, not only the fact that you took the time to read this but the fact that you commented.

Sadly there are lots of these idiots out there, people who don't bother to look up all the facts and believe everything they see and think that this whole mass is a simple black and white thing.

I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for this, I know that this thing can't be solved over night but people like you, they make the difference, an like you said, all we can do is enlighten one idiot at a time.

*hugs* That's what friends are for, my dear. I worry for you and for everyone in Israel. I truly wish that there was a way to make the hatred and the violence stop, right this very second. However, since there isn't, I fully support your people's right to defend themselves against those who would see you destroyed. Seriously, even if you don't bring morality into it (and I do, I think your fight is just and moral) it is still only what is sane and logical.

Nah, I just have a brain and a heart and I use both. Sadly, that seems to be a bit of a rarity in this world. Seriously, though, I was close to tears writing that because I believe it with all of my heart. I want you and yours to be able to live fearless and proud in freedom and peace.
