finally a quiet saturday...
had an amazing time in winnipeg this past weekend...also the quickest weekend ever. there was a seat sale on westjet, it wouldn't get me to bc, but it got both us halfway to the other. winnipeg is not that big, but there are still a lot of old buildings which was a stark contrast to vancouver where they tear everything down after 10 years and build a condo on it. toronto can tear everything down and build a condo on it, as long as they keep the facade from the old building which looks rather odd in some situations. or they rejuvenate old museums and art galleries into something luc besson vomited.
one thing we did find about the winnipeggers, not the most friendly people in the world. maybe it was just us but we didn't meet on person that wasn't making our coffees or waiting tables. i guess no one was advertly rude but i usually meet a lot of people whilst drinking in clubs during pride and i looked damn good. maybe i should have stopped telling everyone that.
so instead of hanging out with other happy homos we ATE! boy did we eat. we found this sushi place and OMLG, had soooooo much food and sake and cocktails. the poor woman just kept bringing more and more and more and more. it also helps that mr blackskull is fluent in sushi. damn, the bill was worth it too. we kinda cheated and went to moxie's the first night we were there. had tuna tar tar or whatever it's called and that was yummy as well. the one we went to is attached to a concert venue and there was a beatles tribute something or other. i should have ducked in and got my parents a tshirt each. instead i was half in the bag and just tipped the waitress really well.
the pride celebrations themselves were very happy and parady and fun. and we both noticed that the faux hawk is still the coif du jour there for all sexes. the parade itself was what toronto pride used to be like years ago and was a joy to watch. every five floats or so a crowd of people were marching without being part of any group other than just belonging there. the park itself where the beer garden and stage were is next to a skatepark. BOING! mr blackskull and i were intrigued to say the least. we both had no problem being dirty old men as we were both on vacation.
as with all good things the weekend was done way too quickly. the afternoon was very difficult and i was the one that couldn't handle it. our flights home took off within an hour of each other and our gates were side by side and mr blackskull's left first. waterworks.
